I have a feeling it will progress to a far worse state for many Americans in the near future. Comcast is now considering introducing new data cap tiers to choke hold their customers even more. I would imagine these caps would steadily increase in price over time.

I used to have a grandfathered 5mbs plan. Slow but ok and unlimited. Then they changed the plan to include a data cap but kept me at 5mbs. They don't even offer a plan slower than 50mbs.

So I'm wondering why in the heck they would think any rational customer would be thinking. "Hey now I have a data cap I'm probably going to hit; but at least my service is slower than everything else and just as expensive as a bonus." and like it.

Netflix sabotages networks. This has a lot to do with how they line up small files in queue dozens and dozens

These companies are paid millions of tax payer dollars for infrastructure they refuse to upgrade. I have zero sympathy for these companies with 90% profit margins. They could spend money tying into dark fiber (existing unused fiber optic cables) around the nation instead of lobbying.

If you guys in the US want change, you need to stand up and say enough. If Comcast insist on breaking with net neutrality then dump them and go with another provider. It's easy* to make a big company go bust or listen - you just need a concerted campaign.

*I mean in theory.

The problem is, in most areas there is no alternative...

avatar

Really? That's bad. The government shouldn't let any company have a total monopoly like that in any area.

I'd suggest writing to local politicians, but most politicians are in bed with business leaders!

The biggest friends of big government are big business :(

FCC and our government are nothing more than corporate puppets. The corporations buy them off, and the people suffer.

There is no doubt in my mind that the FCC will allow this merger (I could... hopefully... be wrong), afterall, they know where there money comes from, But Netflix's disclosures DO make it a lot harder to do so under the table... Thank you Netflix for striking a blow against the Evil Empire!

Yeah ................... Comcast is charging everyone. FCC allows it.

The laws here are fucking stupid. FCC needs to break Comcast apart already. I'm a Business class owner. I love the connection. But they do a lot of underhanded stuff like this ...

One of the main problems with the FCC right now is that the chairman was the man who runs (or at least used to run) Comcast's communications lobby. So the guy who runs the lobby is also in charge of regulating it... that is a textbook definition of "conflict of interest" lol

Is it any wonder politicians and business leaders are almost universally hated?! I stopped voting a couple of elections ago because they just talk BS, break promises and continue the status quo. (All dictated by the rich oligarchs.)

avatar

vrmlbasic

Not voting doesn't help the problem :(

avatar

FireGarden

It's doing no harm either as voting for anyone will get you more of the same anyway.

voting has nothing to do with who win's its just getting you to vote so that you feel vested in whatever happens.

None of the elections in this country have been legit for a long time now, any 2nd year math nerd in college with a sheet of paper and a calculator can see its fake.

Independent polls will show that also.

I personally dont vote because you dont get to vote on the things that matter. Like reform. You just get Coke or Pepsi, both have enough corn syrup in them to lame a horse. Choosing one at all means you accept your heart attack when it comes, and you're best choice, is to save your dollar fifty (thanks inflation) and walk on by the machine entirely. However its against the rules to unplug it and label it out of order, which ultimately helps out your fellow man.

If you don't vote you don't get to complain. Try a third party instead of one of the establishment candidates. Nothing will change unless people like you two actually vote for someone else. Not voting is the same as voting for the establishment.

I certainly agree with your last paragraph. I couldn't have put it better myself - it is like choosing between Coke and Pepsi!

I don't know enough to comment about the rigged elections - but let's just say, I wouldn't be surprised!
