I have been using my Surface Pro instead of my Ultrabook for the last few months, and the youngsters in my family have noticed and they (and I ) really like it. Last week one of my nieces, who is a true i-Kiddie, changed her new device goal from the new iPad to the Surface. I know, only a small statistical sampling but the fact is that the Surface Pro is a vary capable device. The combo of the Pro II and the improvements with 8.1 are making a difference and it is being noticed.
If I were to get one today I would have a tough decision between the S-Pro or the Lenovo tablet, but......

A shortage is not surprising. Reportedly they cut back on production a month ago because they were worried about being able to sell the 10 they already had in back stock.

Now that is true nonsense (10, sheesh!)

If Microsoft would offer the Surface RT with a Snapdragon 800 instead of the awful Tegra4 I would consider it.

Also if they offered a Surface Pro with a AMD APU that's under $500 I'd definitely get one.

I have a surface pro and I love mine.
I am also a Illustrator so I have Painter, Photoshop, and Illustrator loaded up on it and find myself constantly tweaking things on the go. I take it to a figure studio and practice drawing models. And it’s been fantastic working on client work while on flights.
In my opinion this thing was a winner since the beginning and am really happy to see that the second generation is taking off.
The power keyboard that should be release next month will make me even more happier, however the 4 hours I get out of it now while working with painter or Photoshop are fine ... sometimes I cut it a little close .

Wait wait wait....you only get 4 hours of battery life?!? Are you serious??

That's unacceptable. That's just as horrible as the Tegra4 powered TF701.

on a surface pro ( not the surface pro 2) yea i get about 4 hours batter running Photoshop and painter the whole time . and that's continuous, constantly on and constantly working. this is about on par with any laptop i have ever used so im not bothered by it at all.

I have a coworker that loves the surface. He uses it as his work and home PC.

Personally I'd like to see them make a dock for it, possibly with some sort of external discrete graphics.

How cool would it be to be able to take your home machine on the road with simply reduced storage and graphic ability?

Good for them, finally a product that might be worth the R&D.

I think these convertible tablet products are finally taking off. It's a nice balance of a few functions.

I can't seem to get my Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 that I ordered on December 2nd, due to shortages in 8GB memory modules (that are soldered onto the board) among other things.

Lack of certain Surface models could also be due to similar shortages in certain parts. I liked the Surface, but the screen size and resolution weren't enough to convince me I needed one over the better hardware in the Lenovo.

Even the Microsoft Store in the Mall of America stopped selling the Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 because the Surface didn't look as good next to it (speculation based on what questions the sales associates wouldn't answer).

Balmer will probably take credit for this somehow, very publicly.
