God that thing is the Most ugly console I have seen in my life and I have seen them all. the 1st xbox and xbox 360 looked way better than this thing. Also it is too damn big.

The ps4 looks like something I thought the ps4 would look like and I would be playing in 2013 the simple slant make it look high tech and less boring. like the prototypes of high tech machines from the 90's was

It looks like it was made by the suits at Mircosoft office if it took place in encom from the movie tron.

IN tron they made that look boxy darth vader look work though.Microsoft just screwed it up and made it look cheep and ugly.

Cheep VCR. it looks like something I am going to want to cover up when I am not using it so nobody sees it. the ulgy kinect box I have to stick to the TV and find a place for it is even worse.

how am I going to mount that thing on my wall arm mounted TV?

Nevermind I still don't want the xbox one I am going to skip it this time around.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy! a 4k capable HDMI cable for a console that is never going to be able to render at that resolution. The hardware thats in this thing wont even be able to play a lot of current games at 1080 with a decent frame rate without sacrificing an s-ton of visuals and taking shortcuts. Not impressed.

avatar

Refuge88

Ugh, all the people saying that the PS4 is better for the specs are just silly and simple minded.

The differences are soo minimal, that no developer (Unless they are making an exclusive for the PS4) is EVER going to take the time to take advantage of that extra bit of umph in memory. Its not worth their time and money.

For all intensive purposes, they are goddamn identical, because you will NEVER see a difference.

I think I might actually sit this generation of consoles out, I'm happier on my PC anyhow.

Mob mentality not withstanding, i for one am hopeful. The console doesn't seem so bad, and i always keep an open mind. It's a pity you people seem so turned off.. you haven't even tried it!"

+1

I have exclusively only owned Play Stations since PS1. Not a fan boy, just comfortable with what I have come to enjoy. Let's wait until both systems are available for consumers, and then let mob mentality take its natural course in the MPC forums...

No thanks ill stick with my PC

avatar

devin3627

the nvidia geforce 760 (4gb version) is ahead of consoles anyway and will future proof your computer setup for xbox one videogame ports.

I'm with you. lol@consoles

PC's are head and shoulders above what consoles can do.

avatar

wolfing

it's not that it's a bad console per se. It's that, at its price, unless you really need to be in the Microsoft Network (and pay $60/year for the privilege), the PS4 is a better choice.

But hey, because of people raising up in arms, they back-pedaled on the worst decisions ever (always-online/restriction on used games), so maybe if enough people complain they'll move some of those services out of the pay wall (seriously, it's not like they're hosting Netflix's content so they feel like it should be a premium service)

avatar

devin3627

see, a descent constructive comment. can't all the other f***h**ds come up with this? (always-online/restriction on used games)

avatar

warptek2010

Wow, they really thought of everything except they left out the credit card swipe thingy on the side you need in order to play some games and access extra content... oh well, maybe the next one.

avatar

Engelsstaub

Once they have your card number they make you jump through some serious hoops to get them to stop billing it automatically. IME when they billed it in error they wouldn't refund a cent to said credit card. I was told by their over-the-phone customer service (the only way to half-assed resolve an issue) that it could only be refunded in MS points (!) FFS.. ...and then I didn't even get those.

avatar

Nimrod

tell your credit card company to shuve a dik up MSs ass and they will. Charge back baby, aint nothen MS can do about that.

avatar

Shadow Death

I've never been more disappointed with a console design. I think I'd even go so far as to say the original Xbox had a better looking design.

avatar

Alpha-Zulu

Why was he shouting in the first 5 seconds of the video?

avatar

They also recently mentioned that to get most of the 'cool stuff' like the DVR and social features you need an Xbox Live Gold subscription ($60/year). So not only it's more expensive than a PS4 by $100, but it's almost required to spend extra $60/year.

avatar

Cregan89

You're aware you need to pay $60/year for online multiplayer for the PS4 too right? So realistically, what gamer won't be paying for online for any next-gen console anyway? And you get significantly more for your $60/year for Xbox Live.

And the PS4 works out to the same price if you include the PS Eye. The difference is that Microsoft makes the Kinect a mandatory accessory which means it's going to be an integral part of the XBOne and we're going to see some incredible Kinect integration coming from game developers. Meanwhile, because the PS Eye is optional Sony may as well not make it at all since only 14 people will actually own one and game integration will be limited to gimmicky after thoughts.

The way I look at it, Sony just slapped some slightly more powerful hardware in a box and called it a day. But they completely miss the point of console gaming... If over the top graphics and pure performance were my main concern I'd just play on a 5 times more powerful PC. But what I really want from a game console is an overall living room experience. Microsoft clearly had real vision with the Xbox One (even if that vision was controversial). True Kinect integration, cloud compute, and probably the best attempt at true living room integration in the history consumer electronics. The PS4 is just an upgraded PS3... It has zero vision. It just plays games with updated hardware.

avatar

wolfing

uhh... me? I couldn't care less about multiplayer, I play mostly single player games in my console. I also play from the comfort of my bed so I don't play games where you have to jump around and flail your arms. I also use my console to watch Netflix, Hulu+, Amazon Prime Video, etc. For the PS4 that's free, for the Xbox One that costs $60/year.

avatar

Cregan89

@Wolfing
Well then the XBOne really just isn't for you then. Even since the Xbox 360 the big focus was on Xbox Live. But if that isn't of any value to you and you're not going to purchase an Xbox Live/PlayStation Network subscription anyway, then yes the PS4 is the better choice. The XBOne was clearly designed around an internet connection, the PS4 was not. My point was that the majority of gamers are going to be purchasing an online subscription anyway, so the free Netflix etc. point is really quite pointless. Do I agree with Microsoft's decision? Of course not, but they're clearly just trying to add extra value and lure more people into Xbox Live.

avatar

Nimrod

You know what else was designed around internet? Fucking computers. STEAM>Live btw and its free and big picture mod is awesome. Also, my smart TV can play movies off my computer HDD and do youtube and netflix on its own. No dinky console required tyvm

Funny how the xbox makes you pay extra for things that are already main line established free service from so many other devices. I dont have to fucking pay 60/mon to get internet access on my tv, i already pay for internet. Im not so fucking stupid as to send money to each devices manufacturer thats connected to the net. Sorry.

avatar

Zakalwe

"And the PS4 works out to the same price if you include the PS Eye."

It's actually slightly less. The PS4 is $100 cheaper and the Eye is $60. That's still $40 cheaper than the Xbone.

"The difference is that Microsoft makes the Kinect a mandatory accessory which means it's going to be an integral part of the XBOne and we're going to see some incredible Kinect integration coming from game developers."

You really have faith that developers are going to bother with "incredible Kinect integration?". Even on the Wii, a console built around its control system, developers rarely make "incredible" use of it. It's probably going to be subtle little touches that work best rather than some kind of "incredible" revolution that makes the xbone a must have because of it.

That and the fact that most probably won't even bother.

"Microsoft clearly had real vision with the Xbox One"

Gamers want a console for gaming. Period. They don't want "full living room integration". All of that is ok, but not at the expense of key components of what makes a gaming console a Gaming Console.

Luckily, MS have backtracked on most of the things that went against that core, but all your praise of them being "visionaries" is hyperbolic and utterly besides the point.

Console success is built on things like reliability, affordability, wealth of titles and exclusivity, NOT on "visions" of living room integration and full integration of gimmicky hardware.

avatar

Cregan89

@Zakalwe
You're right, for some reason I thought I read the PS Eye was $100.

And I'm not saying that EVERY game is going to have incredible Kinect integration. We'll probably see a handful of games come out designed solely around the Kinect, and I bet some will be pretty fun. But the majority of games will use it to supplement the gamepad controller. And here, I think potentially the more interesting part about the Kinect is it's voice recognition capabilities.

And the Wii is a perfect example of my point. Compare the Wii controller game support to the PlayStation Wand thing. How many PS3 games made use of the PlayStation Wand? Probably like 3. How many Wii games used the Wii controller? Every single one! Because it's a guaranteed available input device, it's integral to the Wii's function, you can't play most (if not all) Wii games without the controller. It doesn't have to be "incredible" use of the controller, in fact, that would be counter productive as the whole point is that it is a more "natural" input device. The EXACT same thing is going to happen here with the Kinect and PS Eye. On the PS4, NO GAMES will make convincing use of the PS Eye. On the XBOne, MOST GAMES will make convincing use of the Kinect.

And when I talked about "vision", I wasn't referring to just "living room integration". The vision I was referring to was the overall experience of the console. The Xbox team envisioned instant switching between games, not having to get up and change the game disc on the console, no longer having to worry about scratched discs, sharing games with your friends over the internet without having to give them the physical disc, accessing your games on any Xbox One without the game disc (all of these examples which are now no longer a reality thanks to you pricks), the console automatically turning on your TV and logging you in based on your face, voice command both outside and inside the game, in game SmartGlass, and what I think to be BY FAR the most overlooked feature of the XBOne, cloud computing! All of your game and user data stored online and can be accessed from any Xbox One seamlessly, no more host advantage as all multiplayer gaming sessions can now be hosted by Microsoft's servers, more consistent and higher performing online gaming because there's no more NAT traversal, and organic game worlds.

What does the PS4 bring to the table over the PS3? More TFlops.

And back to my original point, if TFlops are your primary concern in a next gen console, then why not just get a PC?

avatar

Jasker

Personally I do want a full living room experience. I want my console to play Blu-Ray, have Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, and a full web browser (HTML5/flash). It'd eliminate many of the devices in my media cabinet. However, I will not pay MS a monthly fee for Pandora, Netflix, or to use a browser. That's such an asinine business model.

avatar

elven1assasin

The only thing microsoft has not said, is if they are gona charge more to connect your xbone to your tv service that your allready paying for. So there might be more hidden fees to just watch tv on your xbone besides a 60$ a year deal.

avatar

LatiosXT

Microsoft's more or less been price gouging since the 360.

avatar

Engelsstaub

That's Microsoft. They've been pulling that shit with the 360 as well; taking basic functionality away from Silver members to bully them into paying for Gold. "Wanna watch Netflix? Sorry, your Gold Membership has expired! Please give us your credit card number."

...I've had a 360 (well, I'm on my 6th) since three weeks after it launched. I won't be making that mistake on this launch.

avatar

Sty

Yeah... that $5 a month is a real wallet killer.

avatar

Engelsstaub

It's the priciple.

Do you think they'll ever refund me the money I spent on the vision camera to video chat? How fucking cool and ethical were they to sell me an accessory with specific functionality and then render it worthless so they could sell me a Kinect to do the same thing?

Good talk.

avatar

Sty

You're whinging about a camera that was bought for a console that is almost 8 years old? Really? They offer you things to buy, and you guess what: you have a choice.

Playstation did the same thing with the EyeToy, PSEye and now PS4Eye. But hey, it's Sony, so they did it with the best intentions.

Oh wait, you're all about principles. Sorry.

avatar

GenMasterB

Wow, you'd think Microsoft employees would know how to spell..

You sir have a sincere hatred for Sony when you're better served hating the company that wants to stick it to every consumer whom gets caught in their grips.. Clean your glasses and re-evaluated what you said.. you're countering a "principles" issue with M$ on your side? lol, omg.. that truly is funny..

avatar

Sty

No, I'm countering with 'they're all the same'. You think Sony makes money off hopes and dreams?

avatar

Engelsstaub

They're NOT "offering me things to buy," they're unethically trying to sell me new shit with the functionality of the old shit I've already paid for.

I've never had a PS3 so how in the holy name of fuck am I to comment on what they have or haven't done??

My complaints are legitimate and based on my personal experience. I don't care about your "XBox vs. PS3" fanboy-bullshit competition. I've supported MS and the XB from almost the day it launched

avatar

Renegade Knight

Yup. Pay 5 bucks for something I don't need or pay 5 bucks for Starbucks. It's an easy choice.

avatar

vrmlbasic

The controller seems interesting, if that new D-pad is more functional. Playing Xbox Live arcade games with it, that would only accept input from it, was hellish.

Though if it is compatible with PC does that mean that it is wired (which I'd prefer) or would I have to buy another adapter (as I would have had to do with the wireless 360 controllers) to get PC compatibility?

avatar

Cregan89

Apparently they went micro USB for the new controllers.

avatar

vrmlbasic

MicroUSB? Now I'll need an adapter dangling off of my PC case. Sigh.

avatar

Nixon

Would like to have that game-pad. :P

avatar

jgottberg

What on earth would a PC gamer want with an inferior console-based gamepad? ;-)

avatar

Renegade Knight

Some of us came from the console world. While the PC has more precision, the learning curve is steep and I'd rather just enjoy the game.

avatar

Nimrod

what learning curve? its a keyboard. you havent learned to use a fucking keyboard? configuring and mapping a controller isnt going to make games less of a pain in the ass

avatar

I use a wireless Xbox 360 controller to play Need for Speed. Except the new Most Wanted. That's crap. No adapters. Plugs straight into USB. 60 bucks at best buy two years ago. I don't use it for anything else tho. I'm a WASD guy myself. Have been since Doom. And Shadow Warrior. And Duke Nukem. And Halo. I can't play Halo with this controller. Or any FPS.

avatar

Nixon

Some of my racing games are absolutely horrible with my steering wheel (and obviously m&kb), so I've been using a MadCatz game pad for those.
Need For Speed is pretty rough since the special powers use that horrible D-Pad. Always call in a chopper or something else when I meant road spikes or turbo, so a controller like this should do better. They've said that the D-Pad is better, so I do hope!

avatar

vrmlbasic

Using the 360 controllers allows me to get my "I can't use a mouse, it's too hard" gaming bros to experience PC gaming.

avatar

jimmthang

The gamepad is nice. I have held it. Microsoft rep confirmed that it will be compatible with PCs as well! :)
