Hey, yeah, uh.... That didn't happen. Scrambled for all available updates today. They didn't make that easier, either.

I've been reading several stories over the last year by the PC Media that seem to think Microsoft will have to continue support for XP beyond April 2014. The main concern is a "threat to the internet". So many still use it and even China is asking M$ to do so. I guess time will tell!

I think M$ should continue support at least till they release Windows 9. If not allow Windows 7 PCs to be sold at stores like Best Buy (M$ Store) etc. till then. But if Win9 is going to be more not listen to the user W8 crap then let the collapse continue.

XP remains the best version of the OS. I still use it every day. Windows 7 is nice, but it makes customization a pain in the ass for absolutely no good reason.

And then there is the abortion they call Windows 8 . . . .

Gotta agree!!!

The XP layout for usability is the best to date. Sure Vista/Windows 7 were more secure, more stable and prettier but the hide the functions & dumbing down began. They also required more horsepower. At least there is God Mode.

Then the I want to be as rich as Apple mentality began. Windows 8 was corporate suicide. Everyone is being fired, replaced or stepping down at Microsoft.

Does anyone know if they are going to make a final service pack of all the updates past sp3? If they don't they will really piss off a lot of people. Hell I still use Win 2000 on a computer....it just keeps on chugging and if it breaks I have all the sps to do a fully patched install.

LONG LIVE XP!

One small step for Microsoft!

Can M$ take the big step?

This is the way they should have done it years ago. Give companies time to adjust. The fact that it will no longer be updated will cause a stir in businesses that still use it but they will take a bit of solace in the fact that they still have a good antivirus to mildly protect it. The end of support will cause companies to begin the process of upgrading and the extended MSE support will buy them 6-12 months extra time to complete the transition without suffering any major virus attacks. To cut if off completely would open up the doors to enormous exploits and attacks that companies couldn't deal with. I think XP will be toxic 2-3 months after support ends because of the concerted efforts of hackers and the added benefit of stealing from larger companies who haven't upgraded yet.

They're never going to follow through on XP's demise. People love the OS and refuse to let go.

I think that they will have to support it for a lot longer than they thought. It works. The average user can turn on their computer and they know how to use it. It just simply works. Heck, even CBS news with Scott Pelly still uses XP. If you look at the monitors in the background when they are in the newsroom, they say Microsoft Windows XP. It isn't just going to go away.
