MS should just shut up about W8, and give us what we want in W9....

Paul, here's a quick update i found from another source:

Windows Aero will be making a legit return to Windows 8.1 update 1.

http://www.neowin.net/news/aero-glass-can-be-turned-on-in-the-leaked-build-of-windows-81-update-1

the only problem is that users need to manually re-enable it.

It's not that MS made a bad OS. It's a great idea, just poor implementation due to over complication. I would like to see a touch screen interface, but one with a menu style of gnome 2. You click on a menu button and menu of categories drops down (programs, system settings, etc.) Click the category you want and a window of icons pops up.

How about an OS that doesn't force you to use your desktop as if it were a smart phone? That would be great....

Hopefully the new CEO will give the finger to Ballmer on his way out and delay this update to implement a fully featured pc version of windows8 with all the start menu bells and whistles.

LOL!!

Keep hoping and wishing...but your old Start Button is gone.

Thus spake the intern....

Back under his desk, little intern.

You never fail to turn up like a bad penny with your ridiculous posts.

In this case, you have no reasoned rebuttal to what I've said, so you are left with inanity.

Why do you even bother posting here? Are you comfortable being a gadfly?

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

You get as much attention as you deserve. Sad you think yourself worthy of more.

The day that windows xp support ends april 8th, the day they hopefully correct their mistake with win 8.

avatar

Granite

What mistake would that be?

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

Hiring you.

I probably would have upgraded to win8 but MS didn't help me figure out how to use it. I tried it on a friends sons machine and couldn't figure it out. Charms? Swiping from side? Huh?
Granted i'm an older fellow but some intuitiveness or direction would be helpful. I was lost.

hmmm...

Have you ever used a smart phone?

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

Have you ever been accused of being smart? Not likely....

"such as possibly bypassing the Start screen and booting straight to the desktop environment by default"

Hmm... So the new thing about that is what? That Win 8.1 will boot to desktop as default and you have to change it if you want to boot til Metro or what?? Because you can already boot to desktop quite easy if you want. That's what I am doing on my desktop PC.

If it starts booting to desktop as default you just move that problem from desktop users to tablet users.

I hope it's more than it sounds here. Maybe something like letting people decide in the setup/install.

I still find this an almost perfect idea on how to "fix" Windows 8:

Hmmm. I wonder if it will be on April 1st.

Very fitting if it was lol

I would laugh if it was. Although April 8th is more likely.

"An update to Windows 8.1 may roll out in April instead of May" <-- You mean March.

avatar

CaptainFabulous

Technically the statement is correct. It's not going to be May. So your point is?

avatar

AEM

Yes it is correct in technical terms, but that's not what he intended I promise you that.

"Initially planned for a March release, world on the web is that Microsoft is now planning to roll out the Windows 8.1 Update 1 in April."
