Part of me is thinking Microsoft should shift to a service oriented software company, rather than a product oriented one. Or at least find some related areas for additional revenue.

Paying $100 for a home OS is increasingly looking sillier and sillier these days, especially since they're the only one's doing it.

I agree. With Linux, Android, ChromeOS, and even Mac OS X priced between free and $20, the days of paying $100+ for an OS is stupid. Microsoft has to drop that price hard and permanently as well as stop all the silly Starter, Home and Pro versions. Give us one version for a nice low cost and watch me upgrade all four workstations in the house rather than leave them on their original OS until they are replaced.
