Funny, I stopped supporting Window 8 before it was even released.

Microsoft has always been a little slow to catch on....

Really getting tired of Microsoft and Apple/Macintosh...

There is a third option - Linux. But then you will have to sacrifice some compatibility with mainstream programs and software.

avatar

SliceAndDice

Sacrifice is only worth it if it's something better. Linux isn't better.

I agree with that. That's why I don't use it. It is totally incompatible with my research software that I use for most of my work. Also not impressed with any of the MS Office alternatives.

Starting to think so... Tired of corporations telling me how I'm supposed to be and what I'm supposed to be able to do.

I have win8 on gaming rig and I am so glad that I only payed $40 for it for 2 system $40 each with free windows media player key
I have mod and it boots to desktop and updates are turned off on gaming rig
seckend system is my 17" acer I7 gaming laptop and I ran win8 for 30 days at witch time I restored laptop to factory win7
and the first time I have any problems with gaming rig I will be reformatting and reinstalling my win7 home premium I own for it
and will be no longer using win8

and if win9 is not any better I will no longer using windows at all
Ubunta is a nice os and steam works on ubuntu and I have all ready set it up on a sli nvidia system with 6cor and 16gig ram and it works
soon steam os is going to be out and I will be building a system and giving it a big time test run
basically windows is no longer the only option even for gamers
at this time MS has 2 options build a OS for desktops and another option for Tuchscreen systems or loose relevancy in the computer world

and in the buisness work station the last thing any one wants or needs is a workstation with Metro UI
simple desk top with no confusion why do you think XP still out # all other workstation OS used

Is there a list of things that will be adjusted or changed in Windows 8?
I would like to know if shadow copies will be making a return (or a revamped File History) and a better Programs & Features search (known as settings in Metro) in the Metro interface.

Don't see the pure hate for windows 8 I just instal Stardocks Start8 and havn't gotten a complaint from my dad or sister (who are gamers)
Myself dont see the benefit of upgrading from Windows 7.
Besides the nearly forced metro use why is it so bad?

avatar

RandomInt

If you build it, they will come.
If you change it, they will bitch and moan.

Figuring out how to handle complainers should really be a standard part of the software development process, whether it's an OS or a game sequel or (especially) a website.

One of the first things I did after installing Windows 8 on my desktop was to have it boot straight to the desktop. I didn't see the point of booting to the Start screen on a desktop PC. But after a while I changed it back because of the live tile notifications. It's nice to be able to see all that stuff at a glance.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that the Start button in Windows 8.1 is basically a placebo for people who lost their shit when it was removed in Windows 8?

Mostly, I like Win 8. Was pretty used to the Metro interface by the time it was out. (Zune & WP7)

Been running the 8.1 preview and I am finding it annoying to use 8.0 anymore. Right clicking, on the "start button" and getting all the extra options is too useful.

And really, why is the computer being ON a setting? lol. Cracked me up the first time I used Win8.

Windows 8 is one of the best sales drivers for Apple computers. I will never have a computer with Windows 8. It might be OK for a tablet.

using Mikey109105's old comment before he does so:

"I don't care what iteration Windows 8 is in, I wouldn't touch it if they paid me! Even with a 5 foot pole!"

avatar

Gikero

Huh, that is five feet shorter than my pole. xD

Immature I know...
