I have absolutely no desire to upgrade to Win8/8.1. It looks like a tablet OS. I will keep my Win7 for now. It has worked fine for the time I have had it installed and like the way it works. Win8 is for touchscreen computers and tablets, not for a desktop PC.

Well of course you shouldn't. Not because of Windows 8,s faults but because it would be rediculous to upgrade from windows 7 to windows 8 unless you were upgrading the whole PC.

With that being said. Windows 8 is every bit as good as windows 7 with a 3rd party start menu. So please people get over it!

Now Win 8.1 has slipped to 4th place using more power then win7.
Mobile users are the biggest losers.
Win8 is starting to pile up the bloat ware, can things get any worse for M$ newest most expensive OS ?

Just to be clear (since the article isn't), the 8.1 upgrade only costs money if you didn't own Win 8 already. It would only cost you money if you were trying an upgrade of a previous gen version of Windows.

I am happy with Win 8. Win 8.1 improves the interface, though it still needs more, in my opinion.

Microsoft can sit & spin on a cactus for all I care when it comes to Windows 8/8.1

SO what OS are you using? Not an XBox gamer as well I hope?

I finally have 8.1 but 8.1 preview was so junky I refused to upgrade to 8.1 for two months.

Having read the various procedures required to upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1, I was only further convinced that 7 is best for me.

They can go be a devices and services company in Hell, for all I care.

Various procedures? You make sure your 8.0 is up to date, click the Windows Store, click the tile for upgrade to 8.1. That simple. Which begs the question... what the heck are you talking about?

I do seem to remember reading a rumor post awhile back about a "starter" or light version of Windows 8.x sold on an official usb flash drive. It would be able to store up to so many system profiles so you could use it on a system at home or a system at work etc. I wonder whatever became of that. Sounded like an excellent idea to me.

I'm on the 8.1 Preview with a Windows 8 license. How do I install the live 8.1 without having to reinstall my whole system?
