NOT ANOTHER STEVE............. All of these Steves I've ever personally met were baaaaad news. Stay away from Steves at all costs. If your name is Steve, I'm sorry but you were doomed from birth.

I have a question: What in the heck does Ford have to to do with computers? Ford are cars and trucks, so why they're considering him for CEO of Microsoft is beyond me.

Not much. However a good manager can bring out the best in the employees actually doing all the work and innovating regardless of where they came from. It's a bonus if they do know the business. However a bad manager even if they know the business is bad.

At this level even someone who started as a Janitor and worked their way up will actually have very little direct knowledge of most of the business. It's one of the paradoxes of management. The higher you go, the less you know.

That's one of Microsoft's concerns, according to the article, though he remains high on the list because experience in computers isn't necessarily a prerequisite. Mulally's resume is actually quite impressive, especially his turnaround success at Ford.

Time has a decent article that talks about this (and likewise, there are articles out there that take the opposing view, but I'm dropping this one in response to your question).

Agreed. Of all the other candidates, Steve Mollenkopf would seem to be a perfect fit. I still don't get why Elop is on the list.
