I was looking for a simple, reliable, compact and inexpensive mouse. I decided for Logitech mouse and so far I am very satisfied. David from nail fungus treatment

If this thing gets a 10 why does it have something in the cons side?

I switched from the Logitech G5 to the G9x based on this review. The design is just HORRIBLE.

  1. It does not sit comfortably in your hand like the G5/G500 does.
  2. the mouse wheel sits too low, and the mouse buttons are way too sensitive making the use of mouse tilt in game pretty much useless because you are most likely going to press the mouse button at the same time
  3. Because it has switchable grips, if you squeeze the mouse too hard you will press the thumb buttons
  4. I thought that the sensitivity buttons would be easier to switch between than the G5, and they are, but with such sensitive mouse buttons you are likely to hit it at the same time.
  5. The thumb buttons just don't feel positioned right and they are uncomfortable
  6. The mouse-wheel scroll switcher is on the bottom of the mouse.

As I was browsing though Best Buy I seen the G500. I went right home and packaged up the G9 and took it back. The G500 has everything I loved about the G5 and a whole lot more:

  1. The mouse wheel is the nicer one from the MX series and sits higher so you can actually use the mouse tilt without accidentally hitting a mouse button
  2. The sensitivity buttons are raised and are in a better position.
  3. It has a third thumb button and all of the thumb buttons are positioned nicely and feel natural to press in a hurry.
  4. The mouse-wheel scroll is right below the mouse wheel for quick easy switching.

The article mentions changing your grip made a difference on how this mouse felt.  Any pictures or descriptions on your modified grip would be helpful.

They are the exact same thing, that's why the x is hard to find. The only difference, one is the G9 and one is the G9x. Nothing else different... lol

G9 has a max dpi of 3200, where the G9x has a max dpi of 5000, which is worthless for most gamers anyways.

avatar

BlazePC

I totally agree. 3200 DPI is more than adequate for the task at hand.  Invest the money saved on a quality surface, you'll be blow away by the increased performance.  And don't forget, the G9 on amazone is 54 clams with free shipping and no tax; so the effective savings are even better considering the unit lists for over a 100 bucks.  I finally settled on the Razer Destructor but the Exactmat is good too.

Has anyone tried the ID Grip? I'm thinking that that would be best for me.

After lots of research, I purchased the G9 when it first came out with a price tag of $112. I couldn't be happier. Its comfortable and has lots of features. I also prchased a pair of HyperGlide mouse skates to make it even better. G9 FTW!

I purchased the G9 mouse this May, and I love it! 3,200 dpi is too much to play most games for me, so 5,000 dpi seemed pretty worthless. I upgraded from a first generation razer mouse to a G9 and I had no issues w/ the textured rubber shell because I've used the claw grip for years. Frictionless scrolling is awesome too. Overall worth the money imo.

Amazon doesn't even have this mouse listed yet...where are you guys buying them?

That's just the G9, I'm looking for the G9x

avatar

It's tough to find...I had to use an uncommon search engine called google then the shopping tab and a counter-intuitive search term of G9x.  It's on sale at Best Buy for $80.

avatar

Tunnel_Vision

Being sold at one retailer doesn't make it the easiest product to find.

avatar

Evasive

of course it does...it's as easy as using google.  And, I just listed the one that had it on sale...there are at least 18 retailers that have it.... It doesn't get much easier than finding it while sitting on your arse.  perhaps what you mean is that the product does not appear to be sold at every single store but that doesn't really matter...you just want to buy it and do so easily...which you can do...from at least 18 stores...sitting on your arse.  Who cares how many stores have it...you only need one to and it's even on sale.  C'mon, man, get with it.

Why does MPC keep posting old reviews as new reviews? Isn't the point of this snazzy website to keep fresh content and get around the paper publishing lag?

avatar

willsmith

This is the G9x, which is relatively new.

avatar

nekollx

Their trying to digitize their archive and post it to the site. So "gasp" that means older printed material will show up online.

Who'd ever imagine digitzing ones archive would present old reviews into a new detabase!

I love mine. Its just a G9 but the action is phenomenal and precision grip is better, so I agree with your assessment.  The vulcanized rubber (smooth) shell wears out quickly.  The control software is typical good and stable "logitech" stuff with loads of macro capability.  To me, wireless is a$$ and Razer brands are over-rated.

If you shop around you can score the G9 for just over 50 bucks which is a hell-of-a-deal.  Ive seen the G9x approaching that but since it is relatively new, give it some time to settle down...
