Kingston Teams with SandForce for HyperX SSDs

Someone must have lit a fire under Kingston's backside and told them, 'Hey, don't forget about the enthusiasts!' The memory maker's response? Tapping into SandForce to launch its first SATA 3 (6Gb/s) SSD targeted at power users. This is the first time Kingston has partnered up with SandForce, which will power the company's ultra fast HyperX SSD line.

"This launch is very exciting for us at Kingston. The SandForce controller allows us to deliver the high-end performance that is needed for power users, gamers, and enthusiasts," said Ariel Perez, SSD business manager, Kingston. "Integrating a final production quality controller and firmware, and undergoing extensive testing has been an exacting process, but well worth the wait. By pairing SandForce's latest controller with Intel 25nm compute NAND (P/E 5K), we have built an SSD that meets the requirements set by true enthusiasts."

Kingston isn't just talking the talk, the company's walking the walk with an SSD line rated at up to 525MB/s read and 480MB/s write speeds. The HyperX SSD line will ship in two capacities, 120GB (up to 20,000 / 60,000 IOPS sustained random 4K read/write and up to 95,000 / 70,000 IOPS max random 4K read/write) and 240GB (up to 40,000 / 60,000 IOPS sustained random 4K read/write and up to 95,000 / 60,000 IOPS max random 4K read/write).

Both HyperX SSDs feature SandForce's SF-2281 controller, advanced wear-leveling technology, TRIM and S.M.A.R.T. support, and DuraClass technology. The drives will ship on July 11 in two flavors, one being a standalone SSD and the other a HyperX Bundle Kit consisting of the drive itself, 2.5-inch mounting plate, USB external drive bay, multi-head screwdriver, SATA cable, and Acronis True Image HD migration software. Pricing has yet to be determined.
