HTC to Unwrap Ice Cream Sandwich in Early 2012

Paul Lilly

Show of hands, are there any Android users not yet salivating for Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0)? Anyone? There's plenty to be excited about, assuming your device will be getting an upgrade, and therein lies one of the two big unknowns: When is Ice Cream Sandwich coming and which devices will support it? HTC answered both of those questions on its Facebook page, as least as it applies to its own smartphones.

HTC says it will dole out Android 4.0 in "early 2012," which we'd like to believe means sometime in January and not a catch-all timeline for the entire first quarter. As for supported devices:

  • HTC Sensation
  • HTC Sensation XL
  • HTC Sensation XE
  • HTC Rezound (U.S. handsets)
  • HTC Evo 3D
  • HTC Design 4G (U.S. handsets)
  • HTC Amaze 4G (U.S. handsets)

If your HTC smartphone isn't on the list, you may not be totally out of luck. HTC says it is "continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing, and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich." You know we will, HTC.
