HP used to be a great company. Good design, good support. Now they are meh. Their computers don't stand out. They cut corners to have machines with good specs but sub par performance. I hear good things about the Elite line but looking at them they don't look like anything special.

Meanwhile Lenovo (who make the Thinkpads that I do like) seems to be slowly taking what made thinkpads stand out and reducing it to mainstream schlep.

The HP Spectre 13 has above average upgrade options. Even the Envy 17 offers an impressive upgrade to an I7 - 4900.

Plus one has to remember, the recent recall issues with a majority of Lenovo's is going to make an impressive dent in the company.

But then again... Anyone wanting real specs in a laptop won't do either Lenovo or HP, they'll go for a company such as Eurocom (fully upgradeable on all models) or Origin. The Eurocoms start at about 1k, and are unmatched in most any category

I'll have to check out the Eurocoms. Thinkpads aren't what they were but remain a lot more configurable than most.

I like HP, they are a good value, but their designs are so clunky. The models that aren't, like the Envy, are underpowered compared to the competition.

Ive always liked HP. Good to see an American company do well.

This makes sense since Lenovo released the new T540p laptop and it has had huge criticism for its cheap look / horrible trackpad.
