So a 17 year old from Holland got the World Scoop on HL3? This would be great and Valve would have made this kids career but ... dang, too late, got my hopes up.

gothliciouz

why would valve be in early development(hl3) this late?

"Apparently Valve felt influenced by an improved game engine, next generation consoles, and new game mechanics to keep the franchise going."

do they have a new source engine?...if they're gonna use new game mechanics/engine. how is the game gonna be compatible with the current generation platform, without dumbing down the experience?

Well finally we have a new HL(who knows if it will be HL3 or not) in development. I am elated with this news. What I find puzzling is the folks that are already complaining about a multiplayer/co-op. Lets get the story and game play right first, then we can do the rest later....or not.

The single-player is of the utmost important to this franchise. That's just not arguable.

The problem is that after all this time and hype, the game will NEVER meet expectations no matter how good it is. They kind of shot themselves in the foot with this one.

They are supporting current consoles for what reason? Oh because this is fake. I dont really life HL that well any way so w/e

I'm seriously baffled as to why development started this late.

Can we not propagate the Idiot Nerd Girl meme? All that does is make nerds look like sexist dicks.

Good point.

Even without multiplayer, the next gen graphics engine will surely power the next Counter Strike! Duh!

I hope I am still alive when the game comes out...

Yay! Also, I like the no multiplayer, means they'll spend more time on story (like good old games) and polishing the game. Should make for a great game. Hopefully...

I agree. However, if the gameplay is good, I hope that Valve will release a standalone multiplayer-only version at a later date to keep the focus where it should be.

That said, I would really like co-op.

I don't like the exclusion of multiplayer. Multiplayer was fun in HL1, especially when coop was added.

If the game itself doesn't have multiplayer then it might be harder for those modders to get multiplayer functionality in the game :(

Shoot, one of the best things Valve ever did was green-light Half Life:Decay, the authorized coop campaign for Half Life 1 (which never made it to PC iirc). We need more coop games in general.

multiplayer is overhyped for some games. For Half-Life (not it's spawns like TF2 and CS) the only focus should be single player, as that is what the franchise is all about: the deep storylines. Compared to the CoD games where it's multiplayer first with a horrible single player tacked on as an afterthought. Now don't get me wrong I like multiplayer and co-op gaming, but realistically which do you see more of? I see more online multiplayer compared to co-op through story mode of a game and have for atleast a decade now =( .

avatar

Xenite

Then go play TF2 and keep your multi-player out of my game. :P

Sick of bad tacked on multi-player eating up resources that should be going elsewhere.

avatar

vrmlbasic

Team Fortress 2 blows and is not a coop campaign of HL.

The original Half Life, the one that set the standard and established Valve, had multiplayer. Since it worked then why take it out now?

If you want to stop Valve from "eating up resources that should be going elsewhere" then persuade them to not support the long-antiquated POS current-gen consoles for this game. That's throwing money down the drain, and will be as disastrous as Half Life 2 on the original Xbox was...if not moreso.

Gikero

I happy about no multiplayer as well. Let's be honest. Someone will make the game co-op through modding. I say, let Valve focus on making a great game and story. It would really break the series to introduce co-op in HL3. Who is going to want to play Mr. Silence #2 when you could be playing as Gordon Freeman? Ha ha!

avatar

DeltaFIVEengineer

No multiplayer? No thanks.

avatar

CoryGott

This game isn't for you then. Pretty simple, really.

avatar

praetor_alpha

Impossible. Valve can't count to 3.

avatar

burntham77

If they do this, and if we won't even see a trailer until 2014, why not just skip the PS3 and Xbox 360? Focusing on PC and the new consoles seems like a better choice.

avatar

bear

This sounds more likely that the it is HL2: Ep 3 and not HL3 since the "story" is left hanging at the end of Ep 2 whereas HL2 did not "pick up" where HL1 left off.

avatar

AETAaAS

"release on both current and next generation consoles"

In "Valve Time", this means we should see HL3 on the when the XBox Two and Playstation 5 are announced. :p

I'm honestly going to pray long and hard to the PC gods for this.
