It looks as though that setting defaults to off, and you have to enable it yourself. At least that's how it was for me in Chrome.

Dont break a sweat on this.

Microsoft is going to opt out (they wont let me post my personal thoughts on IE8)

Dell and all the rest of the big companys are going to opt out.

This might fly for small businesses, but I dont see it utilized much as a business model. What happens to all googles ideas that are not profitable?

Hah! I had to opt-in for Google+ so I could opt-out of this "service."

For those who can't seem to get it, they are using your identity to advertise products with no compensation to you, and no case by case permission asked. What if your face pops up next to the next great dildo and you had no idea it was going to be used for that? Extreme example, think of me what you will.

Why does Google need such a long EULA? It should just read "Use our stuff, any of it, and we own you. Agree?"

avatar

Bullwinkle J Moose

Unless everyone is doing the same thing

It waters down their bullshit and I own them in the same manner

And if it's Legal for ANYONE to spy on my computer, then they should have read my Licensing Agreement I use for wallpaper authorizing me to do horrible horrible things to them which is completely Legal and authorized by MY Secret Court!

They can make up whatever bullshit they want, it's all just Fantasy Island in their Tiny Little Fruitcake Brains

With the ego's these punks have, is it any wonder that their brains have swelled up to the size of a pea?

Yet the idiots here think I am the one with the tinfoil hat...
Go figure

+1 I"m pretty much in agreement, Google sux, but I use their browser, their search engine... gmail, heh. Oh irony.

I don't like the direction google is taking us. It started out great with free email accounts, free android, free gps service, etc. But the price is starting to feel a little steep. Mapping the entire world, creating an online identity for everyone that uses their service, tracking your location via cellphone, email conversation, and online comments. Next are cars that drive themselves, using Quantum computers to predict behavior and God knows what else is in works. Ifthis keeps up, Google is going to own our asses by the year 2020.

How different would the tone of this post have been if Microsoft had done this. I will bet that the post wouldn't say "made a slightly unsavory change" or "Is this a little too far"

avatar

JCGPZ9

Indeed. There are a lot of Google apologists out there and it's getting worse on the Android side of things.

They can have the handful of enforcements I did put out there. I stopped doing them all together when they insisted I sign up for a Google+ account to do it. I don't want any social networking accounts, I don't want to attach my real name to everything do on the internet for anyone to follow back to me. It's not because I am doing unscrupulous things or constantly trolling. I simply value my personal privacy. There are a ton of dirtbags out there (including the federal government) that are combing everyone's social media accounts right now for data. I'm just not going to freely hand them information on me. If if that is what they require, then I simply won't participate.

Alathorne

At least they made it easy to opt out.

I think you're missing the point
Why should anyone need to opt out for something they never agreed to in the first place ?

And one side agreements (if legal) can be used by either side

On my side of the equation, my one sided agreement allows me to beat their stupid ass in public and post the video on YouTube!
In addition,
Google hereby gives up all Claim to any rights in Cyberspace and agrees to forfeit all income from their one sided agreements forever and ever, amen

Google also agrees that they have no recourse under this agreement and will never have recourse under any Law in any jurisdiction

Google also agrees to forfeit title to any property which title shall be transferred to me along with all incomes and profit into perpetual perpetuity and beyond
Forever and ever, amen

Failure to read this agreement and agree to it shall result in their (Google employee's and owners) public beatdown and Google owner's assume all liabilities and Criminal Court Costs for their own public beating

This agreement takes affect immediatly and supercedes all other agreements which Google has ever made or shall make in the future

In addition, this agreement may be changed or modified at any time in the future at my discretion and no Person(s), Entity, Corporation, Law or Jurisdiction may do the same under the terms of this agreement

----------------------------------------------------------------
Think that's bad?

Wait till you read my one sided agreement with Microsoft

yes, it's good to be King

LOL, glad you took the time to write that whole thing out, it really drives the point home.

I don't mind them posting my face on search results, so long as they include a paycheck to me for royalties for using my likeness in advertising.

avatar

Scatter

I predict some hilarious 'endorsement pictures' in the near future where there's a positive rating but questionable comments.

avatar

Guyde

It's not "random comments". It's content that you have already shared. The only ones who can see are those you have shared it with. Which was the whole purpose of you sharing it, right?

avatar

Jademan

Too far. At least they should ask permission for that and give 'facebook credits' on g+ in return!

avatar

KenLV

Perfect reason to have a bogus identity for YouTube. Google+? Who uses Google+ anyhow? I mean other than people who got tricked into it and didn't realize they were even creating a Google+ account...

avatar

Bucket_Monster

Yeah I'm increasingly annoyed how Google keeps begging me to use my real name for Youtube. I've said no a hundred times, stop asking already!

avatar

vrmlbasic

Same here. If I wanted to use my real name I wouldn't have created a "handle" in the first place on YouTube.

Google is ridiculous. That they haven't changed their "do no evil" motto despite, well, doing evil says much IMO.

avatar

Xenite

If they are so terrible then stop using their services.... simple.

avatar

vrmlbasic

Unfortunately, even if I could stop using Google's services that wouldn't solve the problem.

Google will still keep pushing for big government and higher taxes for everyone else, while itself getting government perks (NASA discount jet fuel) and hoarding its money in Europe and the Bahamas to avoid the higher taxes that they pushed for. They need to pay their "fair share".
