One more additional thought... Android fans can celebrate a bazillion downloads but Apple is celebrating %130 lead in revenue. Which number do you think both companies find more attractive? I'd probably say the revenue too. So this statement, "It will be interesting to see how Apple responds to these numbers" is pretty stupid. Pretty safe to say that Apple isn't losing any sleep over trillions of free Android App downloads that don't make money.

This post is probably going to come across as though I'm a fanboi for Apple but I'd be saying the same arguments if the roles were switched.

This is significant because one of the deciding factors for many iPhone users early on was the sheer number of apps available for the platform.

Also, you said, "Pretty safe to say that Apple isn't losing any sleep over trillions of free Android App downloads that don't make money."

But its pretty safe to say that smart phone customers are paying attention to the "trillions of free Android App downloads". If there is a free alternative to something I commonly use, there is a very good chance I may switch. I would think Apple might actually lose some sleep over THAT thought, especially considering the state of their stock lately.

But then again they are Apple and do have a tendency to not be able to concentrate on the future. So maybe you're right. Apple probably isn't bothered the least by its rapidly disintegrating market share.

You know... It's shit like this, ..."Android users should find cause to celebrate about their OS of choice" that fans the flames of the iOS vs Android camps bitching at each other about the supposed superiority of one over the other. This kind of journalism (and I use the term loosely) makes one side feel as though they made the "wrong" choice. It's a pretty petty thing to hang your hat on (the "my mobile OS is better than yours" argument).

I could honestly care less. Both are mobile OS's... who cares?! I have an iPhone and use the Apps store. So what? If I had an Android, I'd be using their stores. So what?

Brittany, it is bigger than you think - because Apple has only 1 way to get apps on (without sideloading and rooting your phone). Amazon has a pretty big Play store of their own, so I bet Android is bigger than you think here.
