Considering the fact that this video doesn't suffer from "vertical video syndrome" I would already say it has surpassed most smartphones.

Quality over quantity.

I have never understood why anyone would take video vertically on a smartphone. I don't watch movies on my TV with the TV on it's side - seems like it should be common sense to me to record in horizontal mode.

It's easier to hold a phone vertically with one hand to film. The software should really default to a horizontal letterbox in that position.

I don't record much of anything actually. I have used a Flip before that does reorientate the video and puts the touch controls below the video box.

My comment comes from hearing an episode of the 404. One of the hosts also hates vertical video syndrome.
