Upload speeds are faster than download. Odd.

I am reading through the posts, and one thing is eluding everyone. You are trading one monopoly for another. So for those of you that are talking about the cable monopoly well guess what, Google is becoming much worse, and bigger than any cable company.

There is no monopoly here involving Google. Of course Google is massive and powerful, but they're competition nonetheless. Will you just not be happy until all internet is handled by a billion interconnected wifi routers?

There is nothing evil about stepping in and turning up the dial on other companies. Just two years ago, Google had nothing to do with actually providing the internet, but they realized there was a problem and stepped in to fix it. Now, because of what they've done, companies everywhere are scrambling to roll out their own fiber. I'm even willing to wager that they'll sell off fiber once the dust settles and other companies stop crying from having their asses handed to the by a search engine.

If Google were your ISP it would know everything that you do on the Internet. Instead of having to provide compelling virtual services to inspire you to give them your data voluntarily (eg:Gmail, Search) they will already have all of your data. I'm not so sure that they'd sell that ability and it definitely doesn't seem like a good idea.

It's not as though Google isn't known for taking liberties with the data that we provide them; "don't be evil" is an "ironic" motto.

Google saw an opportunity to make money and went for it.

[If this EVER makes it to my city, I will weep. That is probably ten years from now though, if that T_T]

34 cities.... Hoping and praying it comes here. I'm fed up with Cox and their jacked up prices and pitiful service.

Big whoop. I live out in the boonies. Want to impress me? Get it out where I live. Then we'll see.

All those shitty Cable Monopolies serving sub-standard internet in this cites must be pooping in their pants right now!! Google Fiber is the future. Shame these Cable Monopolies like Time Warner think that 50MB is enough.

"Google Fiber MIGHT be in the FAR future" <- corrected.

It has been almost 3 years since I heard of google fiber and they are still talking about Kansas City. If it becomes nationwide, I hope it does before I become old and lose interest in internet, lol.

It'd be easy to blame Google for dragging their feet but Cable companies using money and enforcing laws to keep Google away is closer to the truth.

Google has the connections and the means to beat the crony capitalists at their own game, if they were so motivated.

Lets hope you're right
