Lets meet them both...............
Where do I call home these days ?
Willows, Ca. North of Sacramento, Ca. and west of Chico, Ca. just off Interstate 5, In the upper Sacramento Valley. My wife Mary (TiredOldWoman) and I live on the outskirts of town and our neighbors are Goats on the north side, a Cemetery on the south side, a canal and rice fields on the east side and the town of Willows to the west about two miles.

What Got Me Started At F@H ?
While in the Hospital recovering from a cancer treatment of radiation and Chemo, a nurse who knew I liked computer building brought in a copy of MPC magazine for me. While looking at the stories in there , I saw a very small story about F@H. Once I was home, I looked up more info on the F@H program at the Stanford site, and thought to myself: "Here is something that might just help others to not have to go through what I'm going through!!" So, I looked around the forum site for info about folding, asked a few noobie questions, and low and behold, one of our former members (ADAK) took me under his wing and got me going full steam with F@H. Many of our other members did also help with advice and guidance as well, some even sent parts. I had a total of 12 dedicated Linux folders going in no time. But ADAK was the driving force behind my F@H involvement !!
My military history: U.S.M.C. 2/7 Fox Co. 29 Palms,Ca. is where my company is now. I AM PROUD TO HAVE SERVED !! PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (12yrs,Till a bullet to the head put a end to my service time. Their sniper got me, BUT, I got MY target!!!!!! )
Where am I employed ?
I am not employed anywhere !! Used to drive a Greyhound Bus, truck driving, and Motorcycle escorts for V.I.P.s. I am on a small disability pension from the U.S.Marine Corps and also from Social Security.
What other interests do I have ?
I am actively involved with many different "Support Our Troops" programs, and also find time to conduct services at our local church twice a month, as I have completed my ministerial studies and am now an ordained minister of a Christan faith based church.
Also: Native American Flute Making, Native Hand and Spearfishing, Woodworking, Wood Carving's, Cabinet Making, Motorcycles, Auto body leading ( I use lead instead of Bondo), and building Handicapped street legal driving carts from Golf Carts. I also record to disc's, books for the Senior Center here and others. I also make and edit sound bytes and promos for a online web radio station we are connected to. WWW.RockandRollHeaven.net
How did I learn about compukers ???
Well, back in the late 70's, as part of my Pshyc. Class (Rio Hondo Collage), we did "Bio-Feedback" studies for U.S.C. Medical Center, In which I got to deal with inputting all the data on to "Punch Cards" for input into the main computer for the program, (Ticket puncher) and when I saw that room full of computer banks, with all those tape reels spinning around, all the humming those things did just made me want to be a part of that program even more.
What hardware am I running now ?
Right now I have a home built rig with : Intel Q6600 , Gigabyte P35-dsl3 ,4 gigs ddr2 667 ram, 4 500 Gig HDD's (ALMOST FULL 98%) Veiwsonic VG2030wm 20"lcd monitor,on board Lite-on DVD-recorders(2) and a LG USB DVD/CD rewriter as well.
Do I build my own rigs ???
Yes !! Building a compuker is not a problem for most folks. It's the programs you put on them that makes a difference !! Those folks that can write and modify those programs, THERE IS THE BRAINS !! Assembly is nothing major.
What is the main thing I use my compukers for at this time??
Audio editing, dubbing. Graphic design and pattern making for all my wood projects, from Flute's to furniture. Once in a great while I would do a totem or two by special request from our neighboring tribal community.
What broadband ISP do I use ?
AT&T. no other choice way out here away from major cities. Don't even suggest satellite !!!!!!! Costs way more and slower than what I have with AT&T.
What do I like most about folding and the Maximum PC Forums:
First F@H; To have an active part in finding a way to stop others from the pain and suffering I've had to endure from cancer treatments and the problems I've had with Diabetes.
While it is too late to help ME, by damn I hope it will make a difference for others who follow behind me !!
As for the forums of MaxPC; Well. MANY members have gone out their way to help me and others. IN sooo many ways !! From advice to sending parts, to helping in person, to even spending hours on chat or sometimes the phone to keep teammates and even non teammates up and running !! Sure we have had a few that like to stir the pot up now and then, but thats life!!! Our members have done a great job of helping folks with many things, Not all compuker related !!
My many thanks and prayers to all those who have helped so many of us along the way ! And may God bless you all.
What are my future plans for F@H ?
Well, I'm now in the building stages of putting together as many rigs as I can for one final push to get smith-lee2005 to the 100 or less stage. We are at 143 now. I have Most of the parts for at least 6 rigs to run Ubuntu/Linux SMP. maybe some others might show up. But, I stand committed to 6 rigs at this time. A far cry from the 12 to 14 rigs of 2008, but, you play with the hand you're dealt !! While it may not be enough with such old rigs to top the 100, I would really like to see us ON the 100 top list, I will sure do my best !!
The reason WHY??
As some of you know, I've been fighting different types of Cancer and Diabetes, and lately the cancer is spreading again. I gave up on treatments as the Radiation and Chemo did not help and the side affects were more than I could stand for something that did no good. I'm not able to see out of my left eye clearly anymore due to cancer spreading inside my eyeball and socket. And it is spreading faster now than ever before. The doctor says I will have to give up the eye in order to slow down the spreading of the cancer. It cannot be stopped, just slowed down. The tumors in my spine are "Non operable" in other words,,they cant cut them out, without cutting my spinal cord. And I told the Doc "I AIN'T going back in a wheelchair!!" In that dang wheelchair was HELL and I swore I would get out of it..I did too !! I have been up and walking for 4 months now. Let me tell you,,,IT"S great to have pain while walking !!! Not walking for 3 yrs. SUCKED BIGTIME !!! But this cancer cannot be beat in time to do ME any good. BUT I damn well believe that soon, with help from F@H and others, we can find a way to save lives with it!! BANK ON IT !!!
And now I'm back to building compukers for folding. To many of you that don't sound like much, BUT F@H has given me a goal to achieve while I can !!!
BTW, the term "Compukers", Is from the days of Compuserve as an ISP, and Windows 98, Their poor quality left you so mad and sick, ya just wanted to puke!
Tired Couple- thanks for sharing your SpotLight with us. We are all inspired by your efforts not to let your major health problems keep you from what you want to accomplish. You give Newbie and many others hours of fun conversing on the forum and you are the undisputed King of emoticons. Keep fighting and folding -G
