Hi all,

I have built my last 2 rigs on my own and they have been decent. I normally do not go for the cutting edge newest toys to hit the shelves, but one or two generation old components. This rig may be a little different though.

I have a friend that bought bioshock to play on his HP desktop and he was complaining that it ran painfully slow even at the lowest game settings. Upon looking at his system, I saw that he was at the bottom of the spectrum for minimum system requirements. I told him that I did not think his 5 year old system would be worth upgrading just to run Bio shock, so he asked me to price him a rig that should be able to play it.

So, I would like everyone's opinion on this one. I am looking for a system that can play Bio shock on at least medium settings, but preferably max settings. It has been a while since I built for specifics, but this is what I have. Please let me know what you think:

Antec 900 Mid tower case
Antec TruePower 650 PSU
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS Vid Card
EVGA 122-CK-NF68 Mobo
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 CPU
Corsair Twinx 2 gig DDR2/800 ram
Maxtor 320gb HD STM3320620AS HD
Lite-on it super allwrite DVD drive
XP Pro (OEM)

He will recycle his Keyboard Monitor and mouse.

Most of you that read Max PC each month will immediately notice that this is based on their $1500 Lean system, but I upped the CPU and Ram. Please let me know what you think about this system.

Thanks

[Edit] Thanks for the below suggestions. I forgot to mention it above, but even though the person that I am making this rig for is not thinking about future upgrageability, I am.

Having the option to go SLI is not mandatory, but could be a big plus if some future game he wants to play requires it. That was one thing I wanted to keep open for him.

Doesn't take all that to run Bioshock.

You could knock the processor down a lot, but if you don't want to I'd understand it.

There's no need for that board, especially if you don't plan to do SLI, which it doesn't sound like you do. Look into an Intel P35 based motheboard, or if you DO plan on going SLI, an nForce 780 based board.

Agreed on the PSU, especially if no SLI.

I second the 8800gt, P35 mobo, and Corsair Power Supply.
I figure why pay for an SLI mobo, unless you're sure you want to SLI.
I OCed my 6420 from 2.1 to 2.4 to play Bioshock (2.8 sometimes because I had a 7900gs and I could) So the 6750 seems like a good idea.
