What's Playing was a unique & interesting thread over in the old Commport . This was one of the few threads over in the Delphi Commport (old MaximumPC forum, pre-folding) that allowed people to get a better idea of what fellow forum members were like, although in no way close to what we get with the spotlights here. Still, it's a lot of fun & can broaden your musical horizons if you have an open mind & wide variety of musical tastes to begin with. It was also the largest thread (over 50,000 posts IIRC) over there for a long time until someone made up a "million posts" thread which was basicly a time wasting thread for people to boost their post count...

Personaly, I listen to music about 12 hrs a day, & unless I'm watching Discovery Channel or DIY Network, I would rather listen to music than watch TV. Anyway, the basic idea of the thread goes like this... Some of us listen to music while doing many different things at or near the computer. So when a member listens to any particular song while browsing the forums, he/she might feel inclined to drop into this thread & post it for others to see, especially (but not necessary) if the song has great personal meaning.

There is only 1 primary rule set for the thread: if you post in the thread, include a song, think of it as an admission ticket to the thread. IIRC, over 95% of the posts in the old Commport thread included a song.

Normaly a thread like this would go in the "lounge" (Break Room) area of the forums, but I thought it would be neat to have it here in the Folding Forums for a couple of reasons. First, not all of us folders venture outside of the folding section of the forums, I only do on occassion. Secondly (& partly because of the first reason), I thought it could help "bond" the team together even more-so than it already is.

Preffered format is as so (& this is my official entry into the thread...), this makes it easier for anyone else to check out what someone is listening to if they so desire:

Artist: Joe Satriani
Song Title: Satch Boogie
Album: Surfing With the Alien

It's pretty amazing that this song is playing right now. IIRC, this was the song that came on when I first found the original "What's Playing" thread & was subsequently my first song posted in the thread. It's also amazing in that it was the very first song I ever heard from Joe & made such an immediate & lasting impression, that I now on all of his CD's & it's still one of my favorite songs from Satriani.

BTW... when I do listen to music, it's usually with Windows Media Player & it's always on Random. I currently have over 400 hours of music on my PC (less than 1/2 of my CD collection) so I never know what will be on next...

Well, you've got the song part down.

But basicly, the intent is to list "what's playing now"

Artist: The Bangles (song that's playing as I'm typing this)
Song: Hazy Shade of Winter
Album: Less Than Zero Soundtrack

Basically, if you're listenting to music while browsing the forum, pop in here some time and post whatever is playing at the moment.

Artist - Tomahawk
Album - Mit Gas
Track - Bird Song

I love this band. It's fronted by Mike Patton (Mr. Bungle, Faith No More). Hell, I like quite a few bands he's in. FNM, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom...
For those interested, you can check some samples at Mike's record company: Ipecac Records (Links to Ipecac's Artist Page)

Hey chaosdsm a fellow Satriani fan here. I too have all his CDs and DVDs. His CDs are the only ones that I'll buy without having to listen to them first.

Artist: Joe Satriani

Psst. This thread use to exist in TBR too. I'd suggest you add #6's rule if you want it to survive lockage.

Only one post per person every 24 hours. ;)

Keeps the spammage down.

I'm currently listening to Rob Arnie and Dawn. Bestest morning show on the radio.

Being over here, I think there's far less chance of spamming, & if someone's going to spam the thread, they'd ignore that rule anyway :(

Shush you. :P
This is a great way for people to discover new music. Also, I'm pretty sure it was at least 3 posts per person, per day.

I don't even know who all those entertainers are.
My music was the stuff that made the 50s and 60s.
And now my interest goes back from there - not forward.

Can't get into all this whippersnapper music.
When Leno and Letterman get to the music at the end, it sounds like yelling to me - Sorry.
I love music when you can understand the words.

Album: The Very Best of Perry Como.
