Can either of you please give a one-sentence summary? I'm only getting "Sorry, but you entered a document ID that does not exist on this site." when I click the link.

I just posted it onmaximumpc.com.

They changed the problematic language to read
Quote:
You may uninstall the software and install it on another device for your use. You may not do so to share this license between devices.
That's more in line with the XP license, which didn't specify a number of transfers.

That's a sigh of relief. My pocket book was going to say no more upgrades for me.

Glad to see that they changed it. Woo Hoo

So what about dual boot partitions on a single machine? Like 2 copies of vista one for gaming and one for regular use? Is that still allowed?

You're activation key generated by your machine "should" be identical so I can't see that as a problem. Seeing you can't use them at the same time and they are on the same machine, MS would just see it as a re-install each time I would assume.

WOOT!! Thanks for the great reporting and keeping us updated Will!

I am, without a doubt, conviced that high profile forums, like this community, have played a pivotal role in the EULA being changed.

The editorial dept at MaxPC should be slapping each others backs over this one.

And YOU, fellow MaximumPC readers and forum participants, should also be doing some back slapping! Mr. Green

And thanks also belong to Nick White at Microsoft. Straight from the horse's mouth:

"You who comprise the enthusiast market are vital to us for several reasons, not least of all because of the support you’ve provided us throughout the development of Windows Vista. We respect the time and expense you go to in customizing, building and rebuilding your hardware and we heard you that the previous terms were seen as an impediment to that -- it’s for that reason we’ve made this change."

I was worried MS was going to extend the finger to all of those long-suffering enthusiasts who beta-tested the pre-release versions of Vista (enthusiasts are 'only' 5 percent of the installed Windows base, according to MS).

This is a step in the right direction, and from a CREDIBLE source this time.

Now about those prices....

Being +1 with MS is a rare treat, it's nice to see this was taken care of.

Confused

You aren't forced to buy their product.

I'm happy that MS has recognised and fixed the problem. Now, if they could only do that with their code .. I'd be giggly with joy.

As I've stated before. That's one reason (not the main reason) I've switched to Linux. I'm still trying to get the rest of the family switched too so I don't have to be stuck in Windows when I don't have time to reboot.. like right now Mad
