Yes, I'd like one, thanks for asking.

I'm sure this will only really be convenient for wired networks, maybe 802.11n.

Not a rumor. Fact! :D

SiliconDust has confirmed on their own forum that they will be at CES with it (or, at least, a prototype), and that it will be a network-connected tuner (just as the HDHR is.)
Proof.

I heard about this yesterday, but hadn't yet posted it here.
Puts me in a bit of a spot. I've been looking forward to Ceton releasing their 4-stream MOCUR (which will be a PCIe x1 board) by the end of the quarter. Don't know the cost yet.
I have the space for that in my MC server.
I do not have an available port on my 8-port Gigabit switch (they're all consumed by the server, 3 HDHRs, 2 360s, the line to my bedroom (and that Media Center), and the uplink to the main LAN (16-port 10/100 switch.)

We don't yet know how many streams the SD tuner will do. They should say at CES.
Of course, many are expecting Ceton to talk pricing at CES, too.

Is there any reason these won't work up here in Canada?

I'd love to get digital cable again if I could use it with Media Center instead of their PVR.

Satch: does your cable provider offer CableCards?

I haven't really heard of CableCards being offered in Canada.

I just did a quick search and it looks like we don't use cable cards up here. :(

The use of CableCards in the USA is also in question.

How many years before the replacement rears its head?

Unknown.

Well, that's because it's Canada. Y'all are always a bit behind. :P

LOL
Occasionally, I post a gem. :P

In other news, Ceton has confirmed pricing on theirs: $399 for the inital version (4-stream card, and it'll be low-profile, single-slot. They weren't sure even 3 months ago they could do that formfactor!)

</runs off to start Ceton thread>

Talk of Ceton tuner will continue there.

News flash:
The SiliconDust CableCARD tuner will be a dual-tuner device (two streams, single M-card), and MSRP is $249.
No release date yet.
