alot of people have problems with decimal to hexidecimal conversion. my teacher taught me a very easy way in class and i hope to share it with you. this is only up to the A+ standard so this would really help on the exam.

first you need to change the number to binary before hexidecimal ,remember the highest number is 255 and remember this chart

1 2 4 8 16 32 64 and 128. all these number add up to 255 so you cant go higher.

lets take a number um...... 195

we start from 128. can 128 subtract from 195 with out going into a negative? yes.

so the first number in binary is 1.

no we have 67 from the 195 after we subtract 128. the we go on to 64. can 64 subract from 67 with out going into the negative? yes

so the second number of the binary is 1. giving 11 so far.

we have 3 left from the 195 after subtracting 128 and 64.

we can not subtract 32, 16,8, or 4 from 3 so we need to add four 0 to our 11.

so far giving 110000 as our binary.

we can subtract 2 from 3 leaving us 1.

so now its 1100001.

we can subtract 1 from 1.

and our binary number is 11000011. 11000011binary=295 decimal

one you get the hang of it, you can do it in your head. also instead of subtracting from the number you can start from 0 and add 128,64... etc.

[b]binary-hexidecimal guide

now we can take 11000011 from the binary and change it to hexidecimal.

first remember this chart. 1,2,4, and 8. you would need to rember this to change it to a number and then get the hexidecimal.

first take the 11000011 and cut it in half. so the first part would be 1100 and the second part is 0011.

lets convert the first part using the chart i provided before.

we start from the left of 1100. the first number is 1 which mean we need to add 8 from the chart. so now we have 8. the second number is also 1 so we add 4. the next two numbers are 0's so we dont add anything.

so for part A of the number we got 12.

use the same rule to convert part B 0011. it should give you 3.

so now we have 12/3

this is the last chart you need to rember.

1=1

2=2

3=3

4=4

5=5

6=6

7=7

8=8

9=9

10=A (MUST BE CAPITAL!!!!!!!!!)

11=B

12=C

13=D

14=E

15=F

* There are more but for A+ thats all you need to know.

so the first number is 12. go to the chart and you would find C. the second number is 3 and look at the chart you would see its equal 3.

so know you have converted to hexidecimal! 195=11000011=C3.

NOW GO RULE THE WORLD WITH THIS!!!!!
