I tried looking for a support contact for the website but all I saw was magazine support so I figured this was my next best choice for my problem. A few weeks back I uploaded an avatar but I didn't like the way it scaled, so I deleted it and attempted to upload another. Now any time I try to upload an avatar I am greeted with the following error.

* The selected file /tmp/tmp_4MrFks could not be copied.
* Failed to upload the picture image; the avatars directory doesn't exist or is not writable.

I have tried several different browsers and files but I get pretty much the same message. Not having an avatar won't kill me, but I want to be able to show off my geekiness in its full 25x25 glory.

Are you trying to upload it from your machine itself? It usually works better if you host it in a place like Photobucket and link it from there.

It sounds like he's talking about the website, not the forums.

Sorry, yes I was referring to the website avatar. I post frequently there and did have an avatar. Only ran into this problem when I tried to change it. Since I couldn't find any website support links I thought I would try here. Sorry if this wasn't the right place to ask the question.

Thanks for the heads-up. It's in the buglist, and should be fixed when we roll out our point release in a week or so.

Try your avatar change again. Should work now.
