Pro-Star is now selling the Clevo D900F with a May 11th estimated ship date:

http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?mainp ... odel=D900F

and for the first time ever, Pro-Star is using Clevo's product numbering system rather then assign it their own SKU.

So, would you go with Pro-Star or Sager?

My last Clevo laptop was from Pro-Star.

But being that they haven't responded to the email I sent them about their VIP program not working, and that they don't offer a no-dead-pixel warranty, I'll probably end up going with Sager this time.

It really doesn't matter who you go with. For example, I bought my laptop from Pro-Star, but I've bought accessories for it from Sager. In the end they're all selling the same laptop.

Probably getting a little off topic here, but... Is there any benefit in getting Turbo Memory for this behemoth?

Nope. TurboMemory is worthless if you have more than 1GB of RAM.

Other than Eurocom, I didn't see any of the vanilla resellers offering turbo memory with this monster.

Ooh ooh, please let us know all about it when it arrives.

I am going to order almost the same thing, except hard drives. Thinking of going SSD for my OS. Soon as the lawyers get my money squared away I am going to order. Just a tough decision between Pro-Star and Sager.

Pro-Star gave me a shipping date of May 13th, which was another reason I went with them.
Sager's ETA was "End of May"

If I'm lucky UPS will deliver it on the 16th, otherwise it should definitely be here by the 18th.

What I don't understand about them is that they're essentially a reseller for a reseller.

Wouldn't it be better to just buy the machine from Sager and cut out the middleman?

Some people aren't smart enough to understand and realize that. That's how those companies make their money.

I always buy from the source, at least whenever possible. Keeps things cheaper that way, and the warranty is less of a hassle as well.

Odd, I did a single configuration on both Sager and XOTIC, and XOTIC was about 30 bucks cheaper.

You kidding me? That IS very odd. Is there a warranty difference between the two? I smell something fishy with that, but strange things do happen.

They were completely identical.

That may be how they reel you in though, having the same laptop as Sager but for a little less money, then they turn around and possibly rip you off somewhere else (ie- support).

Or, it's to cater to people who want the custom made laptop skins that XOTIC offers that Sager doesn't.

Pro-Star called me up today with an offer: If I waited until June 8th I could get a D900F with the new Intel Core i7 975 for no additional charge.

Needless to say I took the deal.

So pics and benchies will not be posted until next month.

Yup, it showed up on Tuesday.

It's a fucking monster, my folding@home output has skyrocketed with this beastie.

However, I've been working 12 hour days so I haven't had a chance to really play with it. So I finally got a chance to load UT2004 and UT3, logged into a few servers and got my ass kicked as usual.

Right now my only beef with it is that they changed around the original Clevo full size keyboard layout. Page Up and Page Down used to have their own dedicated keys, now I gotta use a fucking Fn key to get to them, they also moved the Home and End keys to Fn keys as well which is also pissing me off.

I'm loading NWN2 on it right now, already loaded AutoCAD Architecture 2009 64-bit on it but I need the subscription ID from my boss before I can activate it and see how fast this thing can draw.

Pics (D900F next to an Eee PC 901....funny) to come once I can log into Raven's old server and dump them there.
