Well here we go with the official thread of the 2009 Chimp Challenge.

Just to give everyone a basic history of what has developed.... 3 years ago the Monkey Federation challenged a group of monkey's from overclockers to a race... this was all started by our good friend and chief instigator KingFish... many at MaximumPC folding jumped in as well as others on the opposing team to make it alot larger and more fun than it was originally intended. We won that race thanks to the support of our fellow folders here.

The next year turned out to be even larger and the amazing folders at overclockers worked hard and beat us to the finish line...

Then came last year... two other teams were invited to the party... the [H]orde and Overclockers Australia... needless to say it made it even more of a fun time and the wu's completed and the interest involved increased dramatically from all the teams... and guess what... through much hard work from many of our members MPC won the third challenge...

So there you have it... we're at 2-1 and looking to defend our title... there should be about twice as many teams this year...we're hoping for at least 8 teams to enter...

I haven't been able to contact KingFish as he has traditionally been our team captain... considering the size of the contest this year and the interest being generated on so many teams to get going we've had to start as soon as possible...

I have therefore made bigtoyota479 our team captain for the 2009 Chimp Challenge. His job is to take the basic rules and instruct the other teams so they have a chance to get these out to their respective folding members. He will contact the other teams and once they pick their captains all official dealings will be strictly through them and them alone.

I have also asked Gman to assist on our forums to keep everyone up to date and keep the drive alive. He has been invaluable to our team in keeping everyone informed and motivated during many contests in the past. Between the three of us (with assistance
from our amazing admins) we are working out all the details and rules for the upcoming challenge. Either myself or bigtoyota479 will post the basic rules tomorrow sometime once we finalize everything. After this I will place further announcements and official posts in the hands of the very capable team captain bigtoyota479 and gsmitheman.

One rule that I will announce now is where the finish line is located. Due to the immense folding capabilities of many of the teams that will be participating in the Chimp Challenge this year's total will be FIRST TO 20 MILLION POINTS. We've found in
the past that a contest running around 2 weeks is fantastic especially with several weeks notice as we're doing now.

Get ready for a drag race Team MPC.... thanks for everyone's interest and support in what has turned out to be an amazing contest for the folding world...

Here's a couple of tidbits regarding the upcoming Chimp Challenge '09.

First, the rules:

1. First team to accumulate 20,000,000 points from the start time wins.

2. Start time for the contest is Tuesday, May 5th at 12pm, Pacific Daylight Time.

3. The victor gets to claim the lucky jaded monkey as the prize. Tales have been told of untold wealth and fame that comes with this. The victorious team is allowed to display in any honorary fashion the jaded monkey, the losing team is forbidden to display it. The losing team is bestowed the dreaded monkey's paw, which is said to be cursed. People have been known for have very bad luck with this paw!

4. Team captains are as follows: TBA

5. In the event of a close race, the Stanford site will be considered the official source for points information.

6. Only team captains are allowed to make changes to rules.

7. The official folding names are TBA

8. Have fun and keep it positive.


I'm going to get in touch with seadave from the overclockers. He's going to hook us up with stats as he did last year. He's working on the coding right now and will pass along a url when he has it up and running. He did a hella job last year with the stats. Many of us even have the final graph proudly stashed away in our files as a reminder of the contest and the outcome. If you have a chance, give him a pat on the back and a bit of thanks for his trouble. When I have that url for the site I'll pass it along to you guys/gals.

IM working on getting a computer lab at my school hooked up with folding. Its a buch of P4's, but 30 of them might do something. Im also trying to gey my friends to get folding.

that's amazing bro... it all starts with a few comps here and a couple friends there and then *BAM* you're in the top 10 producers before you know it.... for someone fairly new to folding you've done amazing.....

I have to make up for last year. I only turned in 1 WU on the last day. this time I'll be folding for Maximum_monkey from day one.

so what teams are gonna be involved this year? do we know for sure yet?

Working on that as we speak. I'm figuring 4 others for sure, but I'm inviting the entire Top 10! I've got two teams left to do invites for, and I only started about 3 hours ago, lol. I'll let you all know what's going on as things happen.

This is gonna be soooo fun! Can't wait!

Maybe i should try to push a few extra Mhz out of my rig..... I'll be ready and tested in good time!
