OK been mulling over suggestions, going to get the parts this week but want to make sure their isn't anything I'm over looking.

I have:
Case
Sound Card
Ram

Meaning for Phase 2, the POST phase i need
CPU
MoBo
PSU

for CPU i'm thinking
E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz

for Mobo
ASUS P5Q SE/R

for PSU
COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS-500-PCAR-A3 500W

now does anyone see any conflict with the parts i will be getting in in phase 3 and 4 (i only have general ideas not specifics for those stages)

A modern video card x1 (it only has to meet or beat a 6 year old one so expectations are low, probably around $150)
a DVD burner
a multi card reader

4 hard drives at 320+ GB each (the Old Man has 3 x250)
Prefer to have the OS on some flavor of Raptor but the rest are storage.

Psu improvements....

Both the CM and BFG units above only have 4 sata's, no so good if you have 4 hdd's and an optical. Also, the CM efficiency is poor. One of the best deals at the moment is the 400w Corsair for $40 after MIR

I agree the bfg and coolermaster are highly inferior to the corsair i would never recommend them.
