I have tried this on 3 computers. 1 was running Vista and the other 2 were running XP. When I try to boot from the CD on XP it starts loading then then my computer reboots and then if I try it again it reboots and it keeps rebooting. On vista when I try to boot from the CD while it is loading I get an error saying "ERROR: FireWire unable to determine security-mode" and it doesn't do anything.

Thanks

What CD are you trying to load? Are you using an external Firewire CD drive to boot from?

Erm, patched version of Leopard? As in "special" torrent download of Leopard? If this is the case, we can't help you out with hacked/patched OS's.

I don't really know much about osx86, so it'd all be googling.

http://lifehacker.com/348653/install-os ... -required/

It's illegal if you don't have a valid Leopard license, of course, but that's kind of out of scope for the actual install, I guess.

Also, your hardware has to be compatible .. and it is a short list of hardware that Apple works with.

Try the Insanely Mac forums as well .. they've got lots of info posted about running OSX on non-apple hardware.

What you need to understand is that your machine is kernel panicking !!

Press F8 before Apple logo screen appears, you will see a boot prompt. type -v and press enter. THis is verbose mode. -x is safe mode, try that next...if you can't make sense of what the kernel panic is...which I assume you can't (no offense meant it's fairly cryptic to someone that doesn't know a thing about UNIX).

Other boot options include...:

-Platform="X86PC"
-Platform="ACPI"
-Platform="cpu 1" IIRC shh look it up in case ;).

It is possible that the OP patched his own disc and that it was a purchased disc. We will just assume this is the case :)

The whole thing is a pretty gray area but is generally "accepted" as okay as long as you own the/an OS license.
