I am thinking about getting a netbook to use at work. Right now I am hooking up my laptop to the projector to run powerpoint presentations, but I hate lugging it around. It is a few years old and kind of heavy. All I need it something to run powerpoint and maybe run some videos off a streaming video website, most of which I am able to download ahead of time and are youtube quality or slightly better. I am looking at these two, which are the same price:

ASUS Eee PC Eee PC 900HA XP
Acer Aspire One AOA150-1029

The EeePC has better battery life and a larger hard drive. Which one do you think is a better quality netbook? Storage and battery life isnt that big of a deal, probably will be plugged in and I know I wont use all the storage.

I picked up an Asus Eee PC 901 a few weeks ago.

Nice little unit, battery lasts a loooooong time, about 2.5lbs (almost nothing compared to my 14lb beast laptop) and dead slient.

I use it at work for testing equipment, reading PDFs out in the field, copying documents.

At home, it plays DivX/Xvid just fine, folds a bit faster then my P3 1Ghz Laptop, and can run Skype + Pokerstars over WiFi with no problems.

Rosewill sells a USB powered DVD burner which I also got in the event I need to either burn something for a client or reinstall software.

What kind of crack are you smoking?

Let's take a quick look...

Eee PC 901 XP Edition vs. HP mini 1000 XP Edition

Processor: Same (Intel Atom N270)
OS: Same (Win XP Home)
Ram: Eee PC = 1GB (2GB Max), HP = 1GB (1GB Max). Winner: Eee PC
SSD: Eee PC = 12GB, HP = 8GB. Winner Eee PC
Graphics: Same (Intel 950)
Display: Same (8.9" 1024x600)
Wireless: Eee PC = 802.11n + BT, HP = 802.11g + BT. Winner = Eee PC.
USB Ports: Eee PC = 3, HP = 2. Winner = Eee PC
Weight: Same (2.5 lbs)
Power: Eee PC = 6 Cell Li-ION, HP = 3 Cell Li-Poly
Price = $379.99 (Same)

Not to mention the Eee PC also has VGA output (without the need of an additional docking station), and separate jacks for Mic and Headphones.

We need to see more airplane EmPower adapters for Netbooks.

EDIT: Nevermind, just get the car adapter and add this:

I love my LG X110 ... 10", Nano 270, 1GB.

It is light, speedy, the display is fantastic, the wireless is phenomenal, and it has 3G capability.

Oh, and it is currently dualbooting Windows 7 and OSX without any issues.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up getting the asus, and newegg had a special that included a 16gig usb drive for free. So for $300 I got the netbookwith a dualcore processor and a 16 gig flash drive. So far I love it. The 160gig hard drive performs much better than the ssd in my opinion.

If you need a USB powered DVD burner, this is the one that I picked up that works with my Eee PC 901:

I can't speak for the 150s, but I just bought a D250 and am very pleased with it. the build quality is solid (especially compared to most acer stuff), and it does everything that I expect it to. I haven't used an eee at all, so I can't compare.

edit: should have read the whole thread. shutting up now.
