Does anybody have a preference as to their favorite notebook in the $1000 range? I've been entertaining the idea of buying a Lenovo Ideapad y430 since they seem to be solid enough. However, I can't find any reliable reviews.

Any thoughts on this particular notebook or any others in the same price range?

I'm so out of touch with the notebook world. I just need something reliable that I can lug around and use to do everyday things.

I own an Acer 6920g, It's had its problems with me so far (a lot of hard disk drive failure..) but overall it's ok, and still a good machine with vista x64 on it.
I would suggest the MSI series notebooks, there's a couple. pick and choose price, processor and card.

I was thinking the MSI windbook was showing the netbooks how things should be.

I'm not buying one though. I have a smartphone. Netbooks don't fit in my pocket, so if I need more...I'd get a laptop.

msi makes laptops other than netbooks, i think when the guy above you was refering to a laptop made by msi that wasn't a wind.

Crap...I was just in a netbook thread and mis-read the title. Erase Erase.

Acer seems tops overall. $750 gets you a lot of notebook with Acer.

Actually, at first I was considering an MSI wind but I decided that I'd probably be using it a bit too much for the cramped keys and small screen of a netbook. The y430 I'm looking at has an Pentium Dual Core T3200. Anybody have any experience with this part? How is it compared to the c2d?. Wicked fast performance isn't really high on my list of priories as i've already got a decent enough PC. But then again, if the price is right....

How much are you willing to spend? Therein lies the real question. I can then answer you. I bought a gaming laptop cause i change rooms a lot. When i'm on my own, acrylic case with blacklight cathodes ftw.

I'm basically looking for something around 13.3" - 14.1" for $1000 or less.

It's REALLY hard to beat the price tag on Acer Aspire machines, Asus is close second! If you don't mind AMD Turon 64 X2 for a proc, the HP Pavilion dv7-1240us can be had for $700 after MIR
