I'm looking to buy a laptop almost exclusively for gaming while traveling or away from home. Can someone make some recommendations for something for under $2000? I have seen reviews on the GAteway P-7811fx (appears to be discontinued) , the Dell XPS M1730 and the Alienware M15x, and they all look pretty good on paper. Anyone have any ideas on these or others that would fit the bill?

I don't think it's discontinued.

I don't think that they would WANT to discontinue it until gateway makes a new FX laptop.

The reason I thought it may have been discontinued is because the Gateway website didn't have any info on it. The FX they are showing is the P-173XL FX Edition, but if you search the site for the 7811, there are a ton of reviews and some as recent as October 2008. MaximumPC even gave it a kickass award in August of this year. Best buy has it available in their outlet site, so wasn't sure of it's status.

Damn. I guess you were right. Best buy has removed the 7811 from their main gaming laptop page. However the link above still works. I googled for it a little, and it looks like the laptop is being discontinued either this week or next week. Jump on it NOW if you want it.

I've found a gateway FX-7801u at newegg.

1600 bucks. Only 2 differences between that and the 7811:
320GB hard drive and 1GB video RAM on the newegg one.

Look at the Thinkpad T400

Very bright screen, Thinkpad tough, and hybrid graphics. How does 4 hours of gaming sound?
