Do you know if their Open Office is the tool that the iPhone uses? I freaked out when I was able to open a Word document on mine.

OpenOffice (tm) is an office suite developed by Sun.

If your iPhone has an app called OpenOffice, I think it must be Sun's product .. the name is trademarked, so I doubt an official app would share the same name.

Having said that, I'm just guessin'

Right click on an area in the tabs section. Like right next to the minimize button. Then, click on Task Manager. In the Google Chrome Task Manager pane, look on the bottom left corner and click on Stats for nerds. Make sure you've got Firefox with multiple tabs opened too. Look at the reporting going on. You can also kill individual Chrome tabs if one of the is on the fritz. In FF, you have to kill the whole browser. Not too big a deal since FF usually recovers nicely on next startup, but you can clearly see and feel the performance advantages to multiple threaded tabs. The stats page even shows you how much memory plugins are using.

I just had a nerdgasm.

Google has a browser-based office suite called Google Docs which is good for sharing files and quickly scanning / editing documents.

I'm interested to see how well it integrates into Chrome and, more importantly, how they are going to ramp up the features now that they have a browser that is capable of heavier lifting than previously thought possible with a web browser.

:D

keep in mind that they are still going to have to cater to people still using FF or *shudders* IE. unless they come out with a "Chrome Only" version, or features that only Chrome can use.

Seems like a nice browser, but I think I will wait until it receives more features (such as extensions, themes, etc).

Nice and fast though ;)

Putting out a browser-specific version of software that is supposed to be browser agnostic isn't likely... it violates Google's stated intentions with that project.

Chrome will run it better because of the way that the browser was built ... but I highly doubt that Google will do anything to make their Docs software incompatible with existing browsers. It just doesn't make sense from their point of view.

It fucking sucks:

1. The install, you don't download the install files and run, the installer downloads the files... that is a major fucking bad move.

2. You can't turn off the address bar search feature(at least I couldn't find it), totally annoying, if I type in a partial URL ie. "maximumpc.com/forums" it runs a search instead of taking me to where I wanted to go, if I want to do a search I will go to the fucking search page.

3. It looks very "childish", I mean it looks like how a child would draw what it thinks a browser looks like... with crayons.

My guess is because if Google's servers get hacked, it will download malware instead of the right setup files ;)

It's Google, their response time is in milliseconds

More likely they made it more secure by having the app download the browser files with a link unknown to people.

It's simply a minor annoyance really.

Right now the biggest problem is the browser's rendering of text.

While typing in a post, try to delete a word one letter at a time (not using
backspace but the actual delete button)

Other than that my time with Chrome has been flawless so far. They've won me over once there is an adblocker plugin.

How is that different from someone hacking the server and replacing the files that you download all at once?
