SpotLight on Ogdin
Ogdin started folding on 5/1/07 He has 1,911,914 points ppd 8,310
Lets meet Ogdin...............
Where do you call home these days?
Winnipeg Manitoba, right in the middle of the great white north. The area is flat enough that you can watch your dog run away for 3 days. On cold years it can get to -40C but lately we don't get much below -30 in the winter. Sometimes we can get to 40 C in the summer. Clean air, hunting, fishing, are what I like most? Almost all of my family are either in Winnipeg or just outside it.
My mother was a telephone switchboard operator in Winnipeg in the early 1920s. Many of my relatives are from small towns about 90 miles north of there. You mentioning it brought back many memories - thanks.
What got you started folding?
One of those promotions in Maximum PC
Where are you employed?
Oil rigs, currently working for Cedar Creek Drilling in Northern BC and Alberta.
We punch a hole, case it and move on. We can be on wells for 7 to 45 days depending on depth of the hole and how many legs we have to drill. The move time between wells can be as little as 6 hours to 2-3 days depending on how far we are moving. Usually we have a program laid out for what we will drill during the year, but it depends on the company we are drilling for and the length of the project.
What other hobbies or interests do you pursue when not folding?
PC Gaming, fishing, computer hardware. My favorite games are Deus Ex,any Blizzard game, any Bioware game, Rainbow Six Rogue Spear(the new ones suck), Battlefield series, Halflife.
I like catfishing the best by far, toss in a line, sit down in a lawn chair and relax. With 1/2 pound bait you only get bothered by fish worth catching Its kind of like zen meditation for rednecks, lol.
How did you learn about computers?
Fried a boatload of parts, trial and error ftw
What hardware are you currently running?
2 q6600's,one acts as my main computer 1 e6600 1 Ps3 1 Toshiba laptop

Thats my main machine q6600 @ 3.6ghz,4gigs ram,Asus Maximus Formula mobo,2x Ati 4870's,PCP&C 750 Quad power supply,2x Seagate 500's in raid0 with a old raptor as the page file drive,Xfi extreme music soundcard,custom water loop,in a Antec 1200 case,running Vista64 Home Premium.
The other pictures are the other machines with quads in them in Antec p180 cases on top of the mini fridge. One has a 8800gtx in it running the gpu client too.Other than that i have a laptop and a ps3 that also fold.
Do you build your own computers today?
First computer i bought was a Acer with Pentium 133,after 6 months all i had left from it was the mouse pad.Been making my own ever since.
Do you overclock any machines?
All of them except the second q6600,and its getting water cooled shortly.
What are the main things you use your computers for today?
Folding 24/7 unless I'm playing a game on one.
What Broadband provider do you use - are you happy with their service?
Currently running 2,Mts dsl and Shaw cable. The dsl was dropping out a lot while i was at work so its getting the boot, even though its faster than the cable connection by about 80kbps.
What do you like most about Folding and the MaximumPC forum?
That my computer might actually do something useful besides entertain me.
Ogdin thanks for doing this SpotLight.
Ogdin has moved to another folding team called the Hardware Canucks Forum. We wish him well on the new team, but of course we would like him back anytime. He is always welcome.
A SpotLight added on a Saturday morning? That's like J. Bush not wanting to eat beans.
Yes, you have to check the forum often, anything can happen at anytime. As you probably know, J. Bush wanted the new Grill-n-Beans not the original kind. He sure scared the dog to death though. For those of you in parts of the world that don't see these thrilling commercials, it's an US inside joke - sorry.
