I just made that up actually, quesiton tho? Is it just me or does xp espeically pre SP2 have trouble when trying to connect to a network with SSID broadcast turned off, espeically if you havent connected to it before? I have had this issue a few times. I go in and add the network, key, etc, and it doesnt always connect w/o ssid broadcat. Also, does XP pre SP2 support WPA or is there an update that allows it to?

XP pre-SP2 does have some issues with wireless in general. The update for WPA is included in SP2, but you can read about the wireless specifics about it here.

My SSID has changed this year. It changed to Nate's Network, then Ooglyboogly, youpissmeoff, stupidcollegekids, ihatedorms, Nate's Network, ihatenamingthings, and finally back to Nate's Network again.

Yes, I live next to Cal State Fullerton.....with dorms.....and college kids dying for free internet access. I don't have any trouble. I have WPA (my printer doesn't support WPA2) and I only broadcast for the fun of it. Dang my connection log fills up fast though.....

currently mine is the street I used to live on. I never changed it after we moved last year. I am thinking maybe I might change it to 127.0.0.1

I have setup some networks with fun SSID's
a couple of hot girls living out at the beach used Sex Wax.
I guy that works at the Aplle store was going to use Free Wifi for his then secure it. That one I found funny.

Am I the only one here who gets that one? :P

And, mine are back to boring: :(
CupWirelessG
CupWirelessB

If I get bored, I may change them again. But, it's a PITA to do it (2 lappys and a Soundbridge Radio for me to reconfig, plus a Wii, 2 DS, and a PSP for my roomie to take care of. And, he HATES network setup on the PSP.)

Broadcasted, and very secure, I am just waiting for the cops to show up at my door one day. I would love to see how the person that called is going to explain he was wardriving and came across it :D

The one somewhat technically sound neighbor I do have did ask me about it one day, I told him my reason and he about fell out of his chair laughing.

I have just changed my ssid after installing a new router thus replacing the one that crapped out on me a week and a half ago. I would have replaced it soon but due to fires I was not home for about a week and I worked everyday since then until today.

Anyway I can now be found at the
Paper st soap co.
