i two computers hook to a 4port linksys router, hard-wired. now if i want to network both computers with a laptop that will be wireless, then i could just get an access point correct and hook it up to the router correct? yeah i know, im a noob. thanks for the inputs.

It may or may not work right off the bat depending on how your router is configured. As long as you're using DHCP (which seems likely) things will probably sort themselves out in short order.

Or you could replace your current router with one that has built in wireless...
