Maximum PC

I can not re-boot from the OS w/out loosing my mouse/keyboard and USB. All works fine if just turning on or "warm boot" button. I have duel boot with two XP Pro's (One set the way I like for gaming) and have the problem booting from ether OS.
I'm running an ABit AN7. Ath. 3000+, 512 RAM

Any Idea's on how to correct this?

hmmmm that is pretty weird. try installing another chipset drivers for your mobo and see if that works at all.

Are your mouse and keyboard USB?

Did this start after installing SP1?

Have you disabled the PnP XP service?

RESOLUTION
Remove the unknown device from Device Manager and choose “Scan for hardware changes.” The USB 2.0 Host Controller will be correctly detected and installed.

After performing a clean install of the service pack USB devices show up as “unknown device” in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Remove all USB drivers.

Cold Reboot.

Then all of your USB drivers will reinstall themselves.

Ok I installed old driver for mobo, and all is still the same.

As for USB, Mouse is USB keyboard is not. and neither work. Both did work after SP1 was installed in feb. Problem just started this last month and I'm not sure what I installed to cause it to happen, (if thats what caused it) both OS's have the same updated drivers, other than that only thing they both have that I can think are the basics Firewall, AntiVirus. All drivers were up to date as of last week. At least this isn't a major problem that I can't use the puter > . . . . . . . <knock on wood>

Good enough - have you messed with the XP services? Specifically PnP?

Go to device manager and remove all the COM ports, LPT devices, mouse, keyborad, and network and modem and USB ports

Reboot the PC.

You should be all set after they come back

Instead of setting the operating system twice, why couldn't you just set up a new user and use that profile for either gaming or office apps?

Well I said what the heck n formatted then re-installed but . . . .It still does it, even while installing I had to press the reboot button or no mouse/ keybord. SO I would say it is down to the BIOS. I will try re flashing it tonight or tomorrow after I get all my stuff NAV n NPF back in. I haven't messed w/ the BIOS at all, so all I can figure is perhaps something glitched during the last flash. I will check back here before flashing, just incase there are any other ideas.
