an update on the situation:

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=19314

now, the solution the PR listed is to d/l the nVidia DVD decoder software. i went to the nVidia site and the software page says that it will not work unless an activation key is purchased.

has anyone already tried this? why are we paying $20 to fix a problem nVidia caused?

Yep, they can't and won't fix it. I considered posting but thought it had been covered...

Anywho the only way out is to buy dvd decoding software.

i'm wondering how a company can get away with that. this is like spyware company offering anti-spyware software. you can't create a problem and offer to sell something to solve it.

sorry but if you want to encode then you dont want to buy a gamer card, maybe like a quadro fx, something made for doing encoding.

He's a pretty cool guy from what I gather. Have you seen the Dilberts Ultimate House (DUH) project?
