Lay it on us. We're still figuring out this stuff, so all comments are welcome.

Wow I didn't even know of DTX. Thanks for that information. Nice job.

I listened to this podcast on my laptop and it was kinda low volume even though I had the volume all the way up. Is there a way you can turn the volume up?

Nice! Volume problem wasn't an issue for me, but Will seemed significantly louder than everyone elses. Good info that's not in the mag. Is it possible to divide up the podcast into different sections?

Again, I was really excited for this. I just finished school finals, and I was just loafing around with nothing to do. Good job, again :)

I've been an avid reader since the boot days, I have every copy .. heck I even own a copy or 2 of cd-rom magazine (the ones with brad) .. I still read MaxPC religiously, yes every copy. Basically I've been a fanatic for everything you guys make .. with that said, i really think your website sucks, always has, from the days it was maximumpcmag.com and i am really happy you guys are finally doing something about it, and a Podcast makes a lot of sense as the first step, as I have been praying for one for a long time. Cause I always thought it'd be interesting to hear you guys and gals debate current issues.

The first installment, I have to say was wonderful, does everything a techie pod should .. you obviously did your homework .. keep up the good work .. I am pretty sure that if you post it to itunes or other podcast websites other techie podcasts would have serious competition. Keep up the good work, I cant wait for the next episode.

Love the rants and I hear you about Acrobat Reader, what is up with that?

I'm almost all the way done right now, I think it's really good! Although it seemed like Katherine didn't have a lot to say which is a shame becuase she's obviously quite knowledgeable. I really liked some of the stronger good natured debate between you guys, and GUngs rants.

But whats with the pseudo 70's porn music between sections? :)

I have been wanting a MPC podcast ever since PCGamer started theirs over a year ago. I must say, that this is ever better than I dreamed for the first one! I really liked "Gordon's Rant of the Week", that was freaking awesome, it had me rolling. Keep it up guys, I can't wait for episode 2 :)

I find it interesting that you guys have never mentioned Beryl whenever you talk about Linux as an alternative to Vista. To be completely honest, Aero's very late in the game of desktop effects. We've been seeing this stuff on the Mac for several years now, and Compiz for - what, two years now I believe? You guys should really check into all of Vista's features for Linux. I think your readers (and listeners) should know that OS X isn't the only system making Vista about four years late. (not to mention the horrifying DOS concepts, but I'm sure they're content with slow anti-malware suites  )

You guys did a wonderful job on the podcast. Keep 'em coming! :)

Will, I thought you would sound more...Geeky. All joking aside, the podcast was kinda rough but still a good listen. How long did you guys have to plan this before recording? It seems like you ran out of stuff to talk about. Keep up the good work.

Ack... the rant about 350W video cards. Even MPC's on the wagon confusing "needs xxxW to run" and "able to remove xxxW of heat".

P = I * E
7900GT GPU's voltage are 1.2v in 2D and 3D mode (volt mods get you 1.5-1.7V). The memory runs at 2.02v. It's not a 30A 12v card. It splits out the 12v at the power reg area...the back. And it doesn't need 480, 350, or even 200W. Not when it runs at 40C. The 8800GTX doesn't cross 60C from what I've seen, and the next ATI won't be 350W either.

What it CAN do is remove xxxW of heat away from the GPU, and every heat removal device designed for it must have the same design spec.

Please hop off the wagon so the confusion at least slows down a tad. Are these card makers actually saying you need watts to run and not a single mention of Amperage? I think the engineers need to talk to the marketing team then some day, because watts do very little as toward doing any work. Koolaid...

I mean, the places I've been involved with never state required wattages to run the product...that'd mean watts do work instead of amps, and a 1.4v/65W conroe is a 46A monster? Nope...

From the PCI-Express SIG page (http://www.pcisig.com/news_room/faqs/faq_express/):

Quote:
Q5: What is the PCI Express x16 Graphics 150W-ATX 1.0 Specification?
A5: PCI Express x16 Graphics 150W-ATX 1.0 is a supplementary specification to the PCI Express architecture specification specifically for delivery for higher performance capabilities for the next generation of platforms with leading-edge graphics and multimedia applications. The specification considers power and thermal issues in these platforms and provides a solution space for designers of these systems.

Everyone from the SIG on down describes graphics card power requirements in watts rather than amps. Since the watt is the unit of power, doesn't it make more sense to report the amount of energy/time used? I've specifically been told that 8800GTX boards require 225W of power from the system, which is why it has three power sources (75W from the slot, 75W from each of the supplemental power connectors.

Since the voltage the slot provides is fixed, it doesn't really matter whether you report amperage or wattage, right? Maybe they use watts rather than amps to keep from really confusing people trying to buy power supplies.

Sorry to seem like a negative person...but I thought the podcast was very boring. It was slow moving and low on energy...I actually turned it off in school (I was done with my exam)...but you guys do want feedback, so I'm here for that.

Overall I think that the podcast was very informative and I'm glad I was able to here about some of these subjects that would not even make it to the mag.

btw, what has happened with AMD? I loved their socket 939 stuff, haven't touched AM2 (probably wont if the platform is only going to last only a year longer or so). I don't think the company has enough muscle to try out so many new things (including dtx platform for motherboards). AMD doesn't have a whole lot of resources (at least, when compared to Intel). I'd really hate to see them declare bankruptcy just because they were trying out new things too early.

All I can say is I LOOK FORWARD to the next one....I really enjoyed this one......it was a great discussion...and yes...I didn't know about DTX either...thanks for discussing it....I had it going at work and had some of my co-workers in the IT department I work in gathered around my workstation......oh yea...we all agree with Gordon about the Adobe Reader frequent updates......we actually disable it on our workstations...otherwise our bandwidth would be filled up supplying users with adobe reader updates.........keep the pods coming guys and gals....

Well, let me just say I think it would have been better if I could have called in with some questions, so maybe you guys should start thinking talk radio over the Internet. Yes it was a little slow at times ( only because I personally have little interest in netflix or the Iphone)but overall I found it very interesting and will look forward to listening to more. I have been a subscriber for four years at let me just say Thank you this has been by far the most inexpensive and valuable education I have received. Keep up the good work, and yes I am serious about the talk radio.
