anybody have any links to a good gauge to measuer what upload and download speed is?

Also, you can google "broadband speedtest" to bring up a bunch of others, but dslreports is the de facto standard in all things broadband.

yea i did that but was wondering if anybody had a specific one they liked i was trying to see the speed of my connection i tried several ones and all were between 2.8mb-3.2mb and thats cable internet

i actually like Bandwidth.com.. i used to love bandwidthplace.com.. but its shit.. ever look at Navas?

yeah..he says that you should download software from your isp and see how long....lol google Navas and it will be the first one! check it out

I also use DSLreports.

Make sure you arent using any other apps that use bandwidth.

I would also run the test multiple times, on multiple servers.

People at dslreports.com often recommend using the file download test linked at the OOL forum, instead of using a java-based utility.

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ool

Click on "OOL Speed Test" above the posts. This test will download a file of something like 64 MB and you can check your download speed in bytes (not bits) while it's downloading. After about 30 seconds you'll have a pretty good idea what your speed is, and you can cancel the download.
