Can someone tell me what the overall best and most reliable version of Windows XP? I'm trying to avoid opinions and get factual answers if possible.

Home and Pro are both reliable.

Pro would be better if you have a LAN (or plan on going to one soon).
Pro also has the ability to disable simple file sharing (which I dont think Home will allow).

Pro is obviously better if you consider yourself a power user.
Otherwise Home will do just fine.

Windows XP Home and Pro are the same except for some key advanced features that Pro does such as Remote Access, Manageability, Security to name a few that you can read about here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home ... sing2.mspx

You can also read this write up that Logik did that better explains what the difference between the two are:
http://www.ultratech-llc.com/KB/?File=/windows.txt

Pro also supports Two Processors compared to Home only supporting one.

I personally use XP Pro.

I vote pro, It gives you much more flexibility later on, if you say decide to have your own domain at home (as I do now) or just need more advanced networking options in general.

not that much more expensive and much more advance networking options.
