Egads,
I have no problems setting the verbosity level for the F@H client... But when it comes to Maximum PC posts... Its like my verbosity level has been hard-coded to 9... :D

Heh - for all of those out there who are dredging through my posts on this forum and others - I apologize, I seem to be having trouble with controlling the urge to expound on every issue.

*sigh* guess I'd better cut down on the coffee before I try to write some tip on the proper use of toilet paper... :P

And so that this is folding related....
I've seen several posts throughout the forum regarding the tweaking of the client in order to get the type of proteins that fold fastest and for the most points...

I guess my question is multi-layered (see that whole darn verbose thing again).

1) Is this really a true and applicable statement? (that you can tweak the client as described above).

2) If the answer to 1 is yes - In looking through said posts, I find no all-inclusive "how-to" on how to set this up properly (or if I have I'm a goof and can't figure out its what I'm seeing).

3) Ultimately since we are going for a cure - should it matter if I get a 63 pointer or a 250 pointer WU... Really this is just more for someone to help ease this itchy morality thing in my head... Ease its pain or.. sedate it

Cheers,
Tuathal

Hey tuathal, welcome to the team. I'll try to answer your question, but be advised, the general opinions vs. orifices rule is in effect.
Before the point structure was revised and many of the gromacs units were still beta, running the advmethods flag on an SSE enabled machine led to much higher ppd.
It was incorrectly assumed that the advmethods flag = gromacs, when it's actual purpose was to accept beta and early gen workunits. This can still be advantageous because some early units are given bonus points,(the 13xx series currently), of up to ~30%, again resulting in higher ppd yields.
To wrap it up, on a sse capable system, currently shipping units do seem to yield higher ppd when the advmethods flag is used. Please note that current crop of new units also added much higher memory requirements,(Stanford originally listed 250+mb, may have gone up since), you must also set the allow wu over >5mb option.
Even with flags and tweaks, you're still at the mercy of the assignment server, units are assigned based on weighted priority.
Of course you realize that we're all here for the science, so none of this points nonsense makes any difference
