how come u cant make ur own laptop? u can make a desktop but im pretty sure u cant really make a laptop. unless im mistaken....u can upgrade it though :x so... how come people cant just buy a case and put one together?
would u preffer to make ur own or have dell technicians touch ur baby? the whole point of this question is if u can make a laptop and if u cant y not? not a demand for it?

I wish it were possible.

I'd have a dual processor dual core Opteron laptop with 4 HDDs, a built in broadband router, 8GB of RAM, and an HDTV tuner, all weighing in at 18 lbs.

You actually can now... Pretty much the only thing thats a bitch to upgrade now is mobo and video card (as its typically onboard).

Alienware has their own proprietary (sp?) vidcards that they say will let you upgrade your vid card to ati or nvidia when new ones come out down the road. I think Dell offers this on thier XPS series now too...

Also ASUS has barebone systems you can buy and you can pick up the rest parts all over the place... cheaper than buying pre-configured too...

You CAN buy bare cases with screens and stuff but its hard to find parts for them since its not a big market. Better to just shop around and buy one with a warrenty.

custom a desktop, but just buy your basic run of the mill laptop for basic needs.

or just spend 3k on a sick laptop


i love my laptop and have sunk alot of money into it... but my next gaming machine will infact be a tower.

for christmas, i got my grandpa's old laptop. its not really old/slow but is reaching it's point of no return. it's a Dell Latitude CPx H500GT. It has a 500mhz PIII, a ATI RAGE Mobility™-M1 mobile graphics accelerator, and a really small hard drive (I think 20gb?). is there a way I can upgrade the processor to at least a P4 2.0ghz? basically, I want to be able to do homework, games, dvd's, and photo's. basically a couple steps below a desktop replacement. is this even possible? :?:

Yes, it is really old! And so's this thread! :P

I don't think it's possible to upgrade your PIII. You'd have to swap out the mobo which can be a painstaking process.
