Maximum PC

I’m about to graduate college with Business Management and Finance major. Recently I realized that I would much rather be in the computer field since I have more hands on experience and a love hate relationship with computers =)

I took a full A+ practice exam with out looking over anything and received just a tad below failing on the core and os. Must have been those printer questions and Win 95 questions. =)~

Anyway I need a GOOD solid book to study from any one that has passed the test have any recommendations? Also I live in NYC if any one knows someplace I can attend some cheap and I reaped cheap (or preferred free class(s)?

Each chapter is fairly short and I read them all in fifteen minute increments while sitting on the throne. Schedule the test then read through the whole book again before taking the test.


Here's a few practice Q's:

1. In the laser printer process, what part brings the toner to the drum?

2. What part of a laser printer charges the drum?

wow I saw this as I am going for mine without an official class and that is the exact book I got. I am about 2/3 of the way through it and I already know 99.8% of everything in there. I read it a chapter at a time before bed so my mind goes over it while I am sleeping (or trying to get to sleep ) The only problematic areas so far for me are areas I haven't dealt with much, that being SCSI and some of the antique stuff like specifics with 286/386 timeframe.
To answer without the book:

1. that is a tricky question, what do you mean exactly by "bring it to the drum"? The primary corona charges the particles on the surface of the drum and the transfer corona transfers the image on the drum to the paper. Electrically chargeing the drum makes it receptive for a new image. The hopper holds the toner while the toner cylinder charges the toner so more clarification is needed. (or maybe I am just reading it wrong )

Ok, this is sort of off topic, but I just want to make sure I understand this.
1) You just finished a 4 yr college you decided you dont like the field
2) Now you want to be a tech making $15/hr?

Have you considered perhaps going back and getting an MIS degree?
Im not putting down what you want to do; Im just suprised at the major difference between the level of qualified jobs you will have available to you.

Its the difference between being at an entry level job for quite some time versus starting at double the salary and having alot more room to advance in your career.

a good bit of news on my front, I recently got a tech job with an ISP but it will be part time so I will take my current job to part time as well. He even said that there may be assistance for future schooling for say MCSE or Net+...
