Ok, just two quick questions before I break down and buy this thing...

First... Are these two cards the same? The pictures of the fan layout look different and price on Outpost seems pretty damn good, so I want to make sure I'm actually getting a BFG 6800 GT OC.

Second... Does anyone know how noisy this card is? I would think the single fan version would be quieter, assuming there are actually two different versions and the pic isn't wrong...

someone else posted a very similar thread a couple days ago ( @ bestbuy instead of fry's). it was never really resolved. all i know is that 350 clams is a very good deal. that thing gives at least 2x performance over the 9800 pro at less than double the price now, thus making it a good deal for enthusiasts. if only i could afford to upgrade my whole pc now. :? Anyone know about the noise issue? I also just noticed this on Buy.com

XFX 6800 GT for $333.99
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?s ... c=101&sp=1

Is XFX any good? I'm guessing the BFG OC is worth the extra $20

$350 for the BFG 6800GT?? This is by far the cheapest I have seen it advertised for. Wonder if Outpost.com is a respected company.

Yeah, Outpost has pretty good reviews, they have been around for awhile, and they have a retail presence (might be a negative since they charge tax in some states)

Outpost is Fry's Electronics.

The noise on these are average. Not anywhere near the old dustbusters nVidia had. BFG and eVGA have been noted to make some fairly quiet HS/F's for their cards. BFG uses copper instead of all aluminum as well, so they don't feel the need for fast and noisey fans.

Here is my email to BFG and their official reply on the fan/heatsink layout... I thought I should add that they responded to my email after only a few hours :) :

========================
Can you tell me if there are two different versions of the 6800GT OC? Outpost has one for sale, but their picture is different than the one you have on your site...

A) Is this the same card

B) If there are two revisions, which one is newer? The two fan or one fan layout?

and

C) If there are two revisions... which one is better?

Here are links for comparison:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
=====================

"There are two versions of fans. The cards are the same. BFG has moved to a new fan design for our 6800 GTs. The new space-saving fan is equivalent in performance to the standard reference fan and features a nickel-finished cover and dual, LED lighted fans. The newer version is the dual fan design."

Yeah i looks like the fans on the BFG Asylum Geforce Fx 5950 Ultras. The ones that were in the FAlcon Northwest Fragbox Pro.

I got the 6800 OC and it's not too noisy. But I think that's pretty subjective.

Hey SCHU, when you get this, can you report back on that cooling solution please? I'm very interested in what people think of it.

Ordered my card last Friday afternoon and decided to go for the extra $4 for overnight shipping and I had it by Saturday morning! At that point I was very happy with Outpost :) ...

I can't say I noticed much more noise. if any at all, compared to my old 9600XT. This is entirely subjective of course, but if it had been considerably louder I think I would have noticed (I'm not quite as picky as the people over at www.silentpcreview.com, but I'm still pretty picky). If there is a difference it isn't all that noticable. Currently I am running a pretty quiet case (Antec P160) using two 120MM fans and a large quiet Zalman cpu fan/heatsink. The only time I notice any noise from the card is while I'm booting up my machine. After XP boots up and the driver kicks in, the fans spin down to an acceptable noise level...

So far I'm very happy with this card. I've mainly been playing Doom3 at 1600x1200 on the High setting without a hitch and I tried out the Warhammer demo and ran it at 1600x1200 with everything maxed and it also ran very smoothly. I have a Dell 2001FP and I've been waiting to buy a video card that would allow me to run everything in its native resolution. The blue LEDs on the card also work nicely with my setup because my P160 has the optional side panel w/window and I'm running two 120mm blue LED fans so it blends in very nicely.
