Hi all.....going to order my laptop in the next couple of days. Just wondered which one of these two you would get ( i am going to choose from these 2 ) They both have the same features except the obvious CPU differences and the chassis color. Also, is the CPU power difference (computational) between the athy 64 2800 better than the new pentium m @ 1.6ghz? If you have any alternatives that are similarly priced and specd plz let me know! Thx for any opinions and advice, it is greatly apprecieated =]

Acer Ferrari 3200+ from newegg
Acer Travelmate from newegg

Neither. Wait for the Mobile Radeon 9800-- it's substantially faster.

That being said, the Athlon 64 will be faster than the Centrino, at the expense of battery life. You knew that already, didn't you?

unfortunatly, waiting is not an option for me, i really need it for class and school projects. anyway, from what i could tell, the 9800 mobile could suck up more battery power than the 9700. Anyways, gaming is for my desktop =)
but of the two, which would you go for.

i would go for the travelmate, since [i guess] you would need the battery life more than the cpu power. the huge cache should come in handy too.

If battery life is important, Pentium M can't be beat. I think those numbers are optimistic anyway, but the Pentium M should last you a solid three hours per charge. Can't you get a faster Pentium M or are you already breaking the budget?

2000 is the budget, dont really want to go over that (i already am with taxes..eeek). If i could go over that limit, id go with the 2.0 ghz Pentium M version easily, but alas, that is 500 simoleans more =\ . I think i will be going with the Athlon 64 version though, as i'll be using the battery alone on seldom occasions where i cant find a poweroutlet. Plus, it would be an added bonus to have some CPU power back that nice vid card up, sure its no mobile 9800, but i cant wait till january for those to start appearing to other OEM except dell and their clunky xps and 9100 models.
