A friend of mine is looking to buy a good solid laptop for around $2k. Anyone have any good recomemdations? The best bang for your buck? He would be doing 3D work on it, so a solid proc, lots of ram and a good video card would be essential. Good screen rez too 15 or better, 1440pix or better.

WOW... that is actually VERY good, a lot of power for that price. I guess the thing I fear is th 9.9 seems heavy, but then I don't know how much laptops... as I said this is for a friend.

I've currently got a 13.8 lb notebook, after a month or two you don't even notice it.

He ended getting the one from Sager which is in fact exactly the same thing. I thing he got the 128 megs video card so it cut it down to just around 2k. Nontheless.... WOW what a laptop! At least on paper... we will see when it comes in.

Clevo makes good stuff.

I've had a Clevo 8500V for over three years and it's taken all kinds of physical and electrical abuse from me. I'm pleasantly surprised it's still running, and hopefully it'll run long enough for me to put off buying another one until theres a 64-bit dual core EE Prescott that I can jam into a new Clevo.
