It's unlikely that we will add many more add-ons to phpBB. The problem with adding plugins and whatnot is that every time you upgrade the base system, you have to re-add on the add-ons, which becomes very tedious.
I liked knowing when someone had read my response and being able to reply directly to someone, not to mention only read unread messages in a thread not the whole damn thread, but it is highly unlikely we will get that here. I much prefer the delphi/beehive format, but phpBB is what we've got and we're probably not going to get much more out of it.
That said, if there is a compelling reason or major support, I am sure we could bring it up with the staff and discuss

I think in time you will get a feel for what you want and don't and what is worth it and what is not.
I think adding a notify under the quote button action of a post would not be hard - even if its a PM notification - but this might cause PM box problems as people don't deleate. But it would be a small change me thinks.
I know what you are saying about the re-add-on stuff. But if it simple enough....
Then again - a ton of simple add ons can be alot of work
