I really do like the Kaypro mod, but something is in my head. Something big.
I had a flood of ideas hit me today. This is how I felt when I first created El Diablo. I want to make something horrific, I want to be a part of something evil. I have a pretty good picture in my head of what I want this case to look like, but I have no idea on the specs. The specs are not important anyway. Once I finish the case and get the swarm out of my head I can go back to the Kaypro mod. Even if the finished product sits empty, at least I'll know it's done.

It's gonna be black, it's gonna be red. There will be sharp things, there will be blood. There will be Inverted Pentagrams, skulls, devil heads, and body parts. It's gonna be different. It's gonna be a wasteland.

Here's the case. An old P2 system that I've been using to test cathodes, fans, etc.

Look out! The devils got him now!!!!! XD

The front benzel air vents almost look like the teeth of a skull...maybe you could incorporate that.
Just so you can see what I mean, I'll superimpose one just for reference.
Give me a minute.

I got to work on the Primer.

Image

Then the black under coat.

Image

Image

Image

Next, I played with how the faceplate may be set up after it's done.

Image

Here's where it gets good. The whole case is pretty much going to be covered in expanding foam. I want the case to be bumpy and porous. I want it to look like what you'd expect if you ripped off someones skin. Think of the muscles, tendons, fat and all that blood. I've tested it on the original faceplate for El Diablo.

Here's the original.

Image

Then with the foam. I waited about 2 hours for it to settle.

Image

Then I sprayed it with a mixture of black and red. The red goes on thick and the black undercoats and helps create the look of natural shadowing.

I think it turned out pretty damn good. Almost too good, it looks sick!

Image

I'll start applying it to the case tommorrow.

I have a huge UPDATE. I spent the last 14 hours on this mod and I've accomplished lots! First just want to show you what the dried look of the "skinned flesh" is.

Image

First thing I did was Primer the faceplate.

Image

Then after 3 coats of black.

Image

I added it to the case and let it dry.

Image

Then I worked on another slot loading CD drive.

Image

Next up was prepping the fan grill for the front blow hole.

Image

Dried.

Image

And I wired the power and reset switches. These were the originals. I also cleaned the surface where I was putting the fan.

Image

Then I cut it out and screwed the fan in.

Image

The power buttons got a face lift. First with primer.

Image

Then with red and clear coats.

Image

Lastly I primered the skull and covered the eyes and nose with tape.

Image

And painted it black too.

Image

3 coats later.

Image

Peeled the tape off. Looks great.

Image

Here's where I marked off my screw placement for the skull.

Image

I use a hole punch to divet where I want my drill bit to sit at. This way it won't slide.

Image

And I cut the holes.

Image

Then I had to wire up his eyes so they could glow.

Image

And I screwed it down.

Image

Here's a pic of the front mostly completed.

Image

And without the flash.

Image

I still have to put a bit of the meaty blood look on the front. (1) To cover the exposed drive bay covers and (2) around the fan. In a couple of days I'm gonna start cutting the side panel.

I sprayed on the foam on the bezel.

Image

Image

And added the red! I'll be touching this up some more later with red, black and clear coats.

Image

And I cut the saw blade in half for later.

Totally sweet man, I love that theme. I really am surprised at how well that expanding foam looks once painted with red. Just a black undercoat and some red turn it alive and really add a 3-dimensional effect. Keep it up, I cant wait to see the final product!

I was also just wondering what kind of foam that is that you use to create that red bloody effect. You said it was some kind of expanding or hardening foam?

It's called expanding foam. It's usually used to fill in cracks around pipes in basements and such. Any Walmart or other store carries it. There's more than one brand. They're about $3.50 a can and one can will be plenty for this case.

And it hardens enough that you can't break it or crumple it?
