On page 38 they claim that the Logitech Z-680 is the only 5.1 speaker system with both analog and digital inputs.

That's complete BS -- I've got the Creative MegaWorks 510D 5.1 system -- it's got both analog and digital inputs, AND it kicks Logitech's POS speaker system right in the ding ding. :P

Okay, MPC reviewed the similar Megaworks 6.1 in September 2003

http://www.maximumpc.com/reviews/speake ... 12-10.html

My guess is that MPC likes the sound quality of the Z-680s better, probably due to the sats:

"In our 20Hz to 22kHz sweep test, the MegaWorks’ new sub passed with flying colors, but we were a bit disappointed by the high-end response of the satellites. They stopped producing recognizable tones at around 19kHz."

MPC wasn't the only reviewer that complained about the treble:

http://www.techspot.com/reviews/hardwar ... ks-6.shtml

"cons

Comparatively average treble compared to the mid-range & bass performance. "

Thx IronbarSinister for the info on the MegaWorks 5.1s! Have yourself an avatar!

That has no bearing on the original post however. Saying that the Logitech Z-680 is the only 5.1 speaker system with both analog and digital inputs is a falsehood. Now had they said that it was the only unit they had reviewed that had digital, well that might be more accurate as they are digital but MPC hasn't reviewed them.

I didn't think Creative was still making the Megaworks 510D, are they?

They were replaced with the analog only 550s sometime last year, or maybe even the year before.

I actually wrote the review of them ages ago, and I seem to remember there was some sort of hitch with the digital input. It only worked with optical, or maybe it only worked with Creative soundcards.... There was definitely something weird. I'll see if I can look it up tomorrow at the office.
